There's no right or wrong, Tony, just preferences

Some painters stick to enamels, others to acrylics, it really depends on each person's experience.
I use both enamels and acrylics, and beyond that, I've got gloss and matte enamels and acrylics.
One advantage to the acrylics is that they can be thinned and cleaned up with water, or with isopropyl, while most enamels require stronger solvents, like mineral spirits, though there are water-based acrylics, too. Acrylics generally dry faster, too, which means it won't take as long to complete a figure.
I tend to select paints because they are closest to the color that I need, and worry about the type of medium after that. I use acrylics, enamels, and oils.
If there's anything I avoid with acrylics, it's buying high-priced brand names, like Andrea and Vallejo, because I can buy cheaper water-based acrylics at craft stores, which give me the same results for a fraction of the price.
