Does anyone have photos of the new Seven Years War Prussian figures Frontline is coming out with? I read that they were on display at the Chicago show.

Seems to me that Frontline would be happy to be showing these on their website if they are already showing them at shows.

Thanks for any help.

They're nice, but that's too rich for my blood, The officers shouldn't have moustaches, either. I'll be sticking with kits for now.

Prost!

The Puchala set in turn is based on a Knötel illustration, though, “Eilmarsch nach Küstrin” (“The Forced March to Küstrin”). A number of Puchala’s figures were based on Knötel or Menzel illustrations, as were a lot of other maker’s figures. But for me, it’s the little details. For example, the moustaches aren’t such a big deal, but if Frontline missed that minor detail, what other details might they have missed, and for the price, I’d expect them to get as much right as possible. I'm reminded very much of Currahee Chris' current thread on this very subject, on accuracy and price.

King & Country did the same thing with their Revolutionary War Hessians, and it made me think the same thing--what else might have been wrong, when the little details are wrong?

Prost!

I hear all you guys but 98 USd for a set of six is still pretty good going in this current environment. Not an era I know much about but it makes a change from the usual suspects and I may well be tempted.

YES exactly what I thought..... thats but its for 4 figures .... so $25 each.

I agree, it may be roughly equivalent to the price of other makers' figures, but for the price, I would expect a certain level of accuracy. I haven't even checked to see whether the uniform details are correct for the regiment represented by the Compagniefahne included in this series. And when I look at the figures, they're really about the same quality as the castings in Tradition's catalog, like the ones John showed in his previous post. That is to say, they're of good quality, but since I can buy similar figures and paint them myself, for a little less, I'd rather do that. Of course, that's my druthers, and I'm not saying anyone else needs to do that, these are just my observations.

Prost!

What is the story about the officers moustaches then. Did they not have them?

received several sets today and they are well painted and sculpted. Better than the older Frontline figures but of slightly lesser quality than JJD and K&C.
Good for dioramas. Hopefully their opponents (Austrians and Russians) will be released shortly. In addition cavalry would be very neccessary for this series.

Hi guys,

I've just got some info in from Gerard from Frontline in HK, and he has confirmed a wide range of figures from the 7 years War in Europe will coming our way soon.

As well as the 5 sets of Prussian 18th Regiment Musketeers perviously mentioned, there will be:

Prussia:
3 sets of Jaegers
Artillery 6 lb Cannon, with 3 crew firing
Prussain Personalities: Frederick the Great, with officer, at Zorndorf
Frederick the Great, mounted.
General Seydlitz, mounted.
General Zieten, mounted.

Austria:
31th REGIMENT, HALLER HUNGARIAN, Fusilier Company
4 sets
3 sets of Jaegers
Artillery 7 lb Cannon, with 3 crew firing

Russia:
NOVGRODSKIY REGIMENT, Musketeer Company
4 sets
Artillery 12 lb. Unicorn Howitzer, with 3 crew firing.

I have some images too, and they will be posted later today....... so keep a lookout posted....

What is the story about the officers moustaches then. Did they not have them?

No, following the fashion of the time. Facial hair fell out of fashion early in the 1700's, for a gentleman, which officers were. With exceptions for hussar officers, officers in the Prussian army did not wear them. Neither did the French, the Austrians, Russians or British, or in pretty much any other European army. The hussar officers did, because they followed the fashion of the Hungarians, and facial hair was considered wild or uncivilized.

The rank and file were encouraged to wear them, on the other hand, the grenadiers especially, for the same reason, to appear fiercer or warlike.

Interestingly, it looks like the British followed a slightly different custom, and very few men in Britain wore moustaches at the time. I haven't seen any contemporary illustrations from that depict any soldiers, let alone their officers, wearing facial hair.

Of course, by the end of the century, fashions were changing radically, and in a couple of generations, we see moustaches and beards coming back into fashion.

Regarding the new photos, the new line is very attractive, and fills a gap in the market. But now they need to get those photos up on their website!

Prost!

Looks like a good start for this series.........
Prussian Grenadiers are a must as well as cavalry.

If JJD gets into this period it will be a win win situation with both makers relatively compatible in size.
I wonder if there is any collaboration so the two companies can complement each other and not overlap. JJD does great artillery and their cavalry is beginning to rival other major makers.
