Photos Wanted of New SYW Prussian Figures (1 Viewer)

No, following the fashion of the time. Facial hair fell out of fashion early in the 1700's, for a gentleman, which officers were. With exceptions for hussar officers, officers in the Prussian army did not wear them. Neither did the French, the Austrians, Russians or British, or in pretty much any other European army. The hussar officers did, because they followed the fashion of the Hungarians, and facial hair was considered wild or uncivilized.

The rank and file were encouraged to wear them, on the other hand, the grenadiers especially, for the same reason, to appear fiercer or warlike.

Interestingly, it looks like the British followed a slightly different custom, and very few men in Britain wore moustaches at the time. I haven't seen any contemporary illustrations from that depict any soldiers, let alone their officers, wearing facial hair.

Of course, by the end of the century, fashions were changing radically, and in a couple of generations, we see moustaches and beards coming back into fashion.

Regarding the new photos, the new line is very attractive, and fills a gap in the market. But now they need to get those photos up on their website!

Prost!

Thanks

Looks like a good start for this series.........
Prussian Grenadiers are a must as well as cavalry.

If JJD gets into this period it will be a win win situation with both makers relatively compatible in size.
I wonder if there is any collaboration so the two companies can complement each other and not overlap. JJD does great artillery and their cavalry is beginning to rival other major makers.

Couldn't agree more, this is all very exciting to see coming down the pipeline. So far my sales have been excellent on this series and as others have pointed out, the price is very attractive to most collectors, roughly 25.00 per figure is an excellent price point.

Am very interested to see this range develop and grow and also if John gets involved too, will be nice to have two well known companies producing figures from this period.................

MOUSTACHES.....

I have had a reply from Gerard re: Moustaches on Prussian Officers:

He said:

Officer moustaches will have to stay as all figures are nearing end of production, certainly will change next production. So now they’re collectors items :rolleyes2:

Grenadiers will be next for Germans.

Some of the Austrian border troopers are well colourful and off the wall. I’ll think about that.

A friend of mine who Swedish has his son serving in the royal guard, so may do a small selection of Swedes, keep him happy. Interesting uniform and great flag.

Regards, Gerard

So there.... point out a problem it will be solved... eventualy

See, there you go, problem solved.

These will now end up on Ebay from sellers who sell on there from time to time because afterall, collecting is a process.

Iv'e solved the problem on my end; I shaved all of the moustaches off......................

I think that the Jaegers could also be used for the American Revolution, see Troiani http://www.historicalartprints.com/viewgallist.php?id=173
Benjamin

Hi, Benjamin, yes, you're correct, they could, maybe with some alteration. The Jäger uniform was very similar between the Prussians and the Hessians (ie, the Casseler), especially since the Landgraf in the Seven Years War undertook efforts to model his army as closely as possible on Frederick's (he himself was a general in the Prussian army). Some modification in color is required, to convert them to Brunswick Jäger, in either the Seven Years War or the Revolutionary War. The uniforms were basically unchanged, between 1756 and 1776. Also, some wore gaiters instead of boots, but most wore boots. In the Prussian army, even the Jäger zu Fuss could be called on to ride, and usually had boots.

I use the Imrie-Risley casting of a Hessian Jäger to represent those from any of the 3 armies, in the Seven Years War.

Wow, I had an impact!

Gerard is right--snap those figures up now! Just like the Britains hollowcast Queen Elizabeths with the moustaches ;)

Swedes would be great, too. They did have a presence, in their foothold in Pomerania, until late in the war. The Belling Hussars spent a good deal of their time bottling the Swedes up in Stralsund. I don't know of any maker who has modeled the Swedes in the SYW, in any numbers beyond individual figures.

I am no expert and no painter but they look good to me.
What about the Duke of Marlborough is he in the pipeline

I am with you Damian. They look pretty good to me and the $24.50 price per figure is very reasonable. I can hardly wait until the West Coaster to buy represenative sets from each country in Gerard's room.

The Duke was from the early 1700's so I don't think you will see him.
