Australian Light Horse Flag Bearer? (1 Viewer)

Gday,
A question for those who might know. I can't find in my research any where as to weather the Light Horse ever actually carried the National flag/ ensign or regimental gidon into battle or in the field during the Great War, can't find any phots or any references to such at the A.W.M or any of the books i have read. May be one of you knows if they did?. The K&C flagbearers just don't look right even tho they are nicely done.

The flags were correct for the time except for the Blue ensign. Did they do the charge with them at Beersheba well who can really be sure. They do look great thou and that's enough for me to Own them. Simmo.

I suppose it's the same as the K&C Great War German A/Car FW034, it didn't actually exist but looks great and you just have to have one.

If you are doing Beersheba then strictly speaking it may not be correct to have Flagbearers in the
display. However I have seen many Light Horse re-enactors parading with both versions of the
Flag and even seen a re-enactment of the charge with flags flying.

This has been debated elsewhere and total historical accuracy as per 31 OCT 1917 would
mean no flagbearer being made at all. However there have definitely been people in Lighthorse uniform
carrying such flags. If somebody looks at a display and gets "technical" then say it is a re-enactment of
the charge !!!

The Flag Bearers are frequently chosen as a single item gift so in that context does not necessarily
have to be engaged in the charge.

Each to his own. I think all of those who buy this series would much prefer to have a
Flagbearer option than not.

Interesting, though, that they are so popular regardless of the historical accuracy. I bought the Scots Grey Flag bearer (from you Brett if my memory does not play me false) and he looks great at the head of my charge. I suspect that even though we are all aware of the myth of war being glorious, there is something deep down in us all that is drawn to the cavalry charge, flags fluttering, guns crashing, cannon to the left, cannon to the right. Perhaps toy soldier collectors are the last of the romantics?
