Here are 2 Regal photos of BX5a that show difference in the blues. But here is Allan's comment on the cause of the difference:

"The two photos are actually of the same set taken on two different cameras! It just shows how much difference can result even from digital photography."

Randy,

Boy, that is really a surprising difference in the color of the blues taken of the same set with two different cameras. I have noticed, in the past, that some of the Hiriart stock photos have off colors. One that comes to mind are the purple gloves on the Michael Collins figure in the Irish Free State Infantry set. Thanks for the comments from Allan, very interesting.

Very interesting discussion of the uniform color shades. The photo of the same set which shows different shades is quite educational. I also, while taking a close look at the pics, noticed the very nice detail of the sleeve/cuff stripes of different colors on the different figures. Thanks for posting all of this. I enjoy this stuff. -- Al

Hi Wolf

Glad you like the thread.

Mike tells me he is trying to update his website so that we will know what SoW he has in stock.

It is definitely an excellent glossy product.

You are lucky to live close enough to visit the brick and mortar store.

Randy

Hi Randy,

Yes, I do enjoy this thread. The SoW line is very colorful. Spoke to Mike ealier this week... and he mentioned he is working on the web site. I visit his shop at least twice a month; close to work for me, plus my main enjoyment is the TS talk with Mike. Placing an order tonight. Think I'm going to grab the French Navy Landing Brigade and the BX6/B 5th Infantry Reg. Imperial Japanese Army sets. Walt

At this weekend's West Coaster Show, I had eight sets of Soldiers of the World for sale and sold them all to two different collectors. They were seven sets of the 1st Swiss Regiment in French service including N61, N62, N65, N66, N68, and N69. There was also a set of French Grenadiers with flag in action. All the sets came in identical blue boxes with white foam rubber cutouts, but no labels on the boxes. I am not sure if they originally came that way or what. I sold three sets to the first collector for $75 each and the other five sets to a second collector for $65 each. Here is a photo of six of the sets.

Hi All, thought I'd join this great thread by sharing some photos I took for the Regal Blog. First up a Russian Siege Gun from the Crimean War range. The gun is based on an actual gun at the New Zealand War Museum in Waiouru.

Next up the 30th Lancers also known as Gordon's Horse.

Then these next are the very latest SOW WWI sets, French Infantry 1914

And also French Foreign Legion at Gallipoli

Have a lot more pictures which I'll try and upload onto the blog soon if I get the chance

Such great figures (and photos, thanks for posting them)!

Just added another set of charging WW1 1914 era French infantry. SoW will have to correct the uniform error (epaulets shouldn't be on the 1914 uniform), before I buy more, though. Also added the the 30th Lancers (Gordon's Horse) to my Indian Cavalry regiments. This gives me 4 regiments represented by SoW. They are the 1st Duke of York's Own Lancers (Skinner's Horse), in yellow kurta; the 39th King George's Own Central India Horse, in khaki kurta; the Jodhpur (Sardar Rissaiah) Lancers, in white kurta; and the 30th Lancers in their dark green kurta. All are just bright and gorgeous but the khaki and white kurtas are especially striking. -- Al

Al - Seeing the photos just posted by Haphazard, it looks like you got your wish -No Epaulets. Time to clear a shelf and get out your credit card. ^&grin

Hi Scott. Thanks for posting these pictures. It so happens that the Gordon's Horse is my latest purchase for my SoW collection, along with some French WW1 infantry. The French infantry you have pictured is a corrected version of the ones I just received. Your picture shows the French uniform in it's correct version, no epaulettes on the great coat and with red collar tabs. The ones I got had the incorrect epaulettes and no collar tabs, so the uniform was of 1870 vintage. Glad to see the problem has been corrected. Great pictures of great figures. -- Al

What more can be said, These are just beautiful Toy Soldiers! - And they make an incredible variety of subjects and sets to choose from.

It's probably time for Regal/Soldiers of the World to have it's own section here on the forum. This thead alone is now going on 12 pages. - Ken

They are, by far, my favorite glossy figures and, as you say, the variety of subjects is incredible. Can keep a collector busy/happy/broke for years to come.:wink2: -- Al

Hi Al, I think the ones you received were because at the time they didn't have the correct figures sculpted. I have been told by Alan that the French still used epaulettes on their dress uniforms in 1914, but not of course when in combat. Just think, you now own a very unique, never to be repeated, one of a kind "incorrect" set of Soldiers of the World 1914 French.

Ah yes, the silver lining.^&grin Scott, the French did drop the 1870 war epaulettes from the combat great coat sometime in the mid-1870's (1875?) and they did retain them on the dress uniforms, (I would guess on the tunics, not the greatcoats), for what thats worth. I am contemplating painting white gaiters on my current, incorrect, figures to turn them into correct 1870 era figures. Haven't made a decision, yet.:wink2: -- Al
