BOM and Quebec Colours (1 Viewer)

Hi,
I know there has been some debate in the past about whether Regimental Flags/Colours should be made in metal or resin. Another alternative is cloth! I've just replaced all of my FIW colours with ink jet printed cloth flags made by Rick O'Brien aka 'The Flag Dude' http://www.flagdude.com/home.do
They cost $10 each, and I am very pleased with them. Here are some 'before' and 'after' pictures (Forgive me if I've got some of the figures mixed up):





Just hope John revisits FIW line regiments in the future!

I have to say that the cloth flags look more the part, going to see now if my printer will do as good a job.

Hi Brad,
I see what you mean. You make a fair point. The pictures I took are very close up, if you looked at them from a 'normal' viewing distance, this wouldn't show. Maybe paper, not cloth, would be a better medium. But as you say 'suum quique'.

Hi Pete, they look good! And great for wargaming, as ours have toppled over more times than one would like! Have to explore one of these options myself. I know John has said that people have strong views on if flags should be metal or resin etc, but this way the metal flag can stay safe in the box, whilst a paper/cloth one looks great on display.

Sorry, I was a bit slow on the uptake!!!:smile2:

Or maybe a metal flag...or a resin flag!

Have to admit, I've had so many figures fall over with metal flags, that cloth flags are a welcome respite.

I hope John does some more line regiments for Quebec....more flags (metal, resin, cloth or paper, I don't care!!!)

Have to admit, I collect 1812, WW1, Jacobites and Sudan, but at the end of the day FIW is special to me.

As someone who wargames with John's figures, and having knocked over flags countless numbers of times, I think this is a fantastic idea, thanks for sharing.

I agree, solid-cast metal or resin flags have the disadvantage of weight, and for metal flags, some makers cast them too thick. The old King-White/Reeves Prussian Napoleonic flag bearer, for example, carries a flag that weighs almost as much as the figure itself!

I like to use foil for mine, so I get a decent thickness--not too thick, that is--and not too heavy. Of course, I like to paint them, too

I'm not brave enough to repaint my figures, but if I was, a display of colours and drummers from different Regiments would make an eye catching display I think. Shame the JJD figures can't be bought as unpainted castings.
