Increase in non-paying bidders and nastier attitudes? (1 Viewer)

Hey all, just curious.

Lately, in every auction cycle I run, I am running into two to three people who are unresponsive non paying bidders who, when confronted with this by opening payment disputes, get really nasty and leave negative comments.

I successfully had one comment removed about a week ago - the only time this guy communicated with me was when I told him that I sold the item to another person after no communication within two weeks. Another buyer, I had to open a non-paying buyer dispute, he paid and told me he was going to leave a negative comment because I was being a jerk. So I refunded his payment and sold the item to the underbidder. This guy left the negative but at least the underbidder left a positive.

Now, I have two non-paying buyers I'm dealing with from my last round of auctions. Every time I open a payment dispute, it's like rolling the dice. If the person is vengeful and mean, they leave a negative comment. If I want to avoid a negative comment, I have to leave well enough alone and pay a final value fee out of fear of opening said dispute. This doesn't make any sense to me. eBay set up the feedback system so buyers wouldn't fear feedback retribution but it seems a good number are using that tactic on us sellers.

Yes. more and more everyday. It's like pulling teeth to get paid. My favorite is after the auctions over you get the email demanding free shipping. Or I'm having issues with my PayPal account. I have been using PayPal for at least 14 years. I process hundreds of thousands of dollars through my account every year and never had a problem. 99.99 % of the people that say they have a issue with PayPal its in their heads. The problem is they have no money in there accounts. If they just told me that I could wait, but don't make up stories. I clearly state that payment is due 48 hours after the auctions conclusion. Its so easy to understand. I finally got paid for 18 different items form one bidder over three weeks after the auctions were done. I only got paid because I opened non-paying bidder complaints. I also state payment by PayPal only. Never fails you get the where do I send my money order email ! Thank god I don't make a living on eBay ! After my collection is thinned down I won't be listing anything again. I can't understand why the management at eBay makes it so difficult for sellers. Fees are out of control, you can't leave feedback for all of the deadbeats, anyone can claim they didn't receive your item, doesn't matter if you have delivery confirmation they don't care you have to eat it. Maybe someday they will figure out that without sellers you can't have buyers.

My take on this is, "why care anymore".

As I see it now, I really don't care.

The new rules on eBay don't work for me, they just robbed me of my 20%.

So, now that it's gone. . . .I don't care about feedback anymore.

eBay can go to HELL.

No more jumping through hoops for me.

I've opened a few non paying buyers recently . Why buy an item and not pay the seller for a week or more? Both were closed after buyers paid. Neither left any feedback good or not.
My gripe with ebay and their new "policy" is I have to accept returns and ship within 1 day.
I have top rated seller status, power seller
" consistently receives buyers highest ratings"
" ships items quickly"
" has EARNED a track record of excellent service"

Evidently that ain't good enough for ebay now.MUST accept returns and ship in 1 day.
I'm just one of those little guyz. I don't have a return department. You don't get 2 weeks to decide if you like the toys or not. Not a Target store here.If it's broke{ a rare occurance } I replace.
I sell castings, plainly titled repeatedly in listings.Several guys repeatedly buy things and are mad they are getting kits. Then buy more and are mad they get kits.Reading the listing is a good idea.
Anyway, I ship next day, or within 2 days and have a great reputation By Ebay standards.
Now they change the game and what was excellent record one day, is sub par and unacceptable the next and unworthy of their own highest rating policy.

Anyway, when I do buy an item, win an auction, I pay then and there. Why wait ? No $$$? Don't bid!

I bought 2 items in the last couple of weeks and paid within the hour.Can't understand why people want to make trouble all the time.

I haven't had any returns except for one item. this guy thought an item clearly described as iron and photographed had gold plating when it clearly didn't.

With eBays 1 day handling, yeah, what ever - I just print the label out within 24 hours. It might take me another day or so to get to the post office but at least the label is printed. I weigh most of my items prior to listing anyhow, so the labels are ready to go.

The fees are ridiculous. I list about 50 items per month as those are free. I am careful what I sell as far as photos. If I have a soldier or toy, I'll often list them in a different category because in certain sections, ebay charges per photograph. Toys & Hobbies is like first photo free then each additional is 15 cents, 35 cents to enlarge it in search and 75 cents to enlarge within the listing. so they make you pay this in a few popular categories but most others are free. But in July they say that all photo and listing fees will be free, but they're raising some minimum price threshold which I'm not clear on yet.

All-in-all, it's been ok on eBay but just a few makes things so miserable.

The normal rules and laws that the rest of us have to deal with with ever day do not apply to them.

Pay within 4 days, not them, answer emails in 8 days not them, give you a answer without giving you a story that does not involve a major accident, earthquake, flood or the second coming.

The best one I had last month was, I have to cancel a number of bids by my father as he has had a car accident and is in a coma. Fine move on totally understand.

One week later same buyer, same items, lower auction prices, bidding again. So out of hospital recovered from coma and I assume major accident and bidding again on my items.

Why make up such a big lie, why not just send me an email saying I think I have over bid on a number of items and wish to remove my bids, I would say fine move on and thanks for being up front and not lieing to me and stuffing me around. No some BS story and stuff me around.

These days you get your 4 days, get 3 emails, do answers I make a non payment claim, 4 days later I claim my refund from eBay.

I then block them bidding on my items and move on, never have to deal with them again and hear the BS again.

Never had a return, always ensured the items are A one and packaged very very well.

On fees, feedback and eBay in general, we all know it is one side and bent togethers one person, EBAY, not the buyer and not the seller but EBAY's bottom line.

Life as we know it, but it is funny complaining about it.

if the person pays after the dispute is opened, they can leave feedback. that is the risk you run.

i ran into one of these buyers. bought something, doesn't pay or resond to emails. then he tells me about how his wife has terminal lupus, his dad just died, he's trying to get a hardship loan from his 401k, nonsense. another forum member encountered this clown to. i'll provide his username if you want it. he clearly has a problem he's not dealing with.

It will make a great TOP 10 list at Letterman's
However most of them will pay after receiving eBay dispute open, and nobody left negative after they paid so far...
I put all non-paying buyers in my "block" list and we share these lists with a few fellow sellers as preventive measure.

It not problem for me as I've blocked non paying buyers on my ebay account and would of thought you would do the same

It can work both ways, as a buyer as well, I have a bought lot on ebay and 99.9% of sellers are no problem at all but every now and then one can be a total jerk, don't answer emails, don't post items within a reasonable time or don't let you know when they have or just plain rip you off, but none have been sellers of TS, I guess they're a nicer bunch of people.....:smile2:

these aren't repeat buyers. i add them as i come across them.

in the past 15 years, i have dealt with only two nasty sellers. in that same time, i've dealt with literally hundreds of bidders who were out of line. not all won my items neither. many just asking questions, list of demands if they were to buy something, etc. when i come across somebody like this, i add them to my block list.

these aren't repeat buyers. i add them as i come across them.

When you list a item you can block people who have not paid for items on ebay the same way you can stop people from buying from you from other country's . Hope it helps

yup, i'm aware of that but the problem is that some of these folks may not have strikes on their accounts yet. i have it set for anybody who a strike within a certain period of time.

I get so frutrated with Ebay, but let,s be honest, it is really the only game in town when it comes to selling off parts of ones collection.
I can,t take my years old K&C set to my bank and cash it in. Yes I guess I could attend a few shows scattered across the country, but look at that expense.
I could advertise here on TF,s, but that is a very limited exposure.
I am in no way sticking up for Ebay, but if it were that bad no one would use it.
