Help I am having trouble loading images (1 Viewer)

Hi Jack,
Here are some directions.
1 Open a new thread or post on another thread already going.
2 Add some text and then scroll down the page to the area that says Manage Attachments.
3 Click on Manage attachments. This will open a new window.
4 Since you havent uploaded files before click on the tab to add files which will open a new window.
5 Click on the tab select files to upload them from your computer. Before you upload a photo it has to be resized to the parameters set up in the program, you can do this in whatever program you use for photo editing on your computer. I usually try to get them as small KB wise as possible without making them so small you cant see the detail. So you will need to play around with this to figure out what right looks like. If the file is too big you will get an error message so keep trying and you will get it.

I am getting the error message and I am not sure how to resize. That seems to be the problem. Any particular program you would recomend for that?

if you have "Windows Paint"...click on the "image" tab...it lets you resize there...it's basic software that comes with Windows Vista Home Basic...

Not even. I recommend a different tack, and that's to use one of the photo hosting sites on the Internet, to store your images. Photobucket is one, which I use; Fotki is another, and there are more. Generally speaking, you have an amount of space to load your photo files, up to a certain limit--I don't know what Photobucket's is, offhand, but I haven't hit it yet. The site will generate the text that you use to create a link in a post here in the forum or elsewhere.
Here's how it works with Photobucket:
I upload a photo file to Photobucket. Once the file is saved, Photobucket generates the links, or tags, as they're called, and I can copy that text and embed it in a post, like this:
If you click the Quote button to reply to this thread, you'll see the actual text of the link for this photo.
The links are displayed in a box on the page, labeled "Links", so it's impossible to miss. There are different links, which work differently. The one I've used is called an image tag, "IMG", and it creates an embedded image in a web page. I prefer that as the most convenient for the viewers, and for me. I don't have to worry about file size, which I would have to adjust if I were to add the photo as an attachment here.
If you look in the how-to section, I think you'll find some older posts on posting pictures, which will have more information than I've been able to provide and which should help you, too.

I'm sorry, Terry, but that's not quite correct. If you change something on the hosting site, like the file name, or it's album, it will break the link. There's no connection to your hard drive, but to the file on the hosting site.

I use Photobucket and I find it easy, safe, efficient and fast.
The last few days I posted over 100 photos on this forum. See Larry's AWI collection for an example of the quality / size of the image that gets delivered to your thread.
IF you were to post, say 5 photos, I would guess it might take 10 Min from your computer to the Forum thread.
Simply place the photo on your computer in a easy place (desktop)
Go to Photobucket and log in.
Click the <"Upload"> button and point to where they are on your computer and they will be uploaded.
To post go to the Album that you photos are in and a drop down box will appear. Click the <IMG> button and it will copy the photo.
Go to the thread and click <paste>

Thanks for the info. Some photos disappeared off of old threads when I moved some files to another hard drive. Now I'm perplexed as to what happened ^&confuse
