Did Anyone See......... (1 Viewer)

I like the idea of members of the French Resistance turning them into good gestapo scum. And the death of Heydrich would be excellent.

I think some French resistance sets would be really cool.Maybe you could have some resistance and civilian figures fighting in the streets of Paris, that would be very evocative.Or it could all be set on the night of the 5th June 1944,as the Resistance emerge to wreak havoc and revenge on the occupiers.

Yes you can almost hear Andy screaming at the pc,FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP WITH THE IDEAS!!!!!!:D

Hey, this kind of enthusiasm means $$$$ to Andy. I think so long as we keep buying he'll put up with our nagging. :D:D:D

I don't care if you use Legos, Toy Soldiers, or anything else, I think that every depiction of the horrors of the Nazis is good, because it reminds us not to let it happen again.

Nice sentiments but..... it is happening everyday, for as long as I have lived, non-stop, with no less vigor and a total lack of accountability.

Guys

And lets not forget 'IT sells'!

Andy is very good at depicting History.

Churchill once said 'those that ignore the past ignore the future'

The Gestapo was a fact, lets ensure it doesnt happen again. However i agree a toy figure set which by the way is an awesome piece of sculpting and painting, will not start a mass of underground policing............which is already there anyhow! Did someone just mention a Bay some where!

To ignore the past is dangerous..........tell that to Hitler when he went East in winter! Napoleaon had already done it.........Mad fool.

WELL PUT. WE FORGET TO SOON
I REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR
To my knowledge there's not to many on this form who can make this claim.
There many who want to revise history and say the Holocaust never happen. My wife's father was with the 101st ABN,502nd. Easy Co from D-Day till the end of the war. NOT the 506th Band of Brothers He did D-Day drop, Market Garden, Bastone and all that followed, Wounded 3 times but never left the line. He told the best he could about people in camps he saw. WE MUST NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN.

On my very worst day in combat under heavy fire did I have have as hard and as bad as these Troopers did.

Chuck,
I don't know how old you were and what you remember of the times, but is it so that there was great opposition to us getting involved in the european conflict including mass ralleys that filled Madison Square Garden? I've heard that there was even opposition to the war, although very subdued, even after Pearl?

Ray,

This is correct. There was great opposition, led by the likes of Lindbergh (who was close to Goering and whose reputation was severely damaged by that association), Gerald Nye and Father Coughlin, the so called America Firsters. FDR had to proceed very cautiously as the opposition to any involvement in the European war was high. The first step towards breaking the monolith of opposition was the US giving Great Britain 50 destroyers that were due to be scrapped.

That set up the battle for Lend Lease with the isolationists who severely opposed the idea of lending munitions of every kind with the idea that it would be paid back. FDR explained to the public and the press that his plan was comparable to one neighbor's lending another a garden hose to put out a fire in his home. "What do I do in such a crisis?" the president asked at a press conference. "I don't say... 'Neighbor, my garden hose cost me $15; you have to pay me $15 for it' …I don't want $15 — I want my garden hose back after the fire is over."

The isolationists were obviously finished when Pearl Harbor came but prior to then the feeling of non intervention was strong.

What is the point of the article? To get people talking about the article and about the magazine, and more importantly, to sell the magazine as others have pointed out. I sold fifteen copies of that magazine at the two shows I attended this past weekend, and all because of the article, people wanted to read it.

Can't get into the guys head, but in some small way, perhaps he is trying to show his readers that no matter how hugely popular K & C is, even they are not immune to critical comments about certain themes of sets they produce. Why he chooses to asault the company the shells out big cake to run ads on the back cover each and every month of his magazine is a mystery to me, seems like very risky proposition IMO. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Personally, I can't wait for Andy's retort, this should be quite a read, a classic as Andy is the master of the well though out, killer response, brace yourself Mr editor is my advice. Curious to see what kind of responses the magazine gets from it's readers as well..............................

I was just kid when we got into the war. But Pearl Harbor is burned into my memory. I knew nothing of the Navy Base there, all knew was I had seen in National Geographic Magazines about Hawaii. Native girls in grass shirts dancing and their grass roofed huts & sandy beaches.
I was listening to a Sunday radio show by the name of Red Lantern. I just walked home from church. There had been a extra collection for the missionaries in China helping with wounded there. My family was very aware of what the Japanese were up to in China. My father’s sister’s husband was an aircraft machinists with the AVG. Several other Uncles, 1st & 2nd cousins severing in the US Navy with the Pacific Fleet at this time. The church was always showing pictures of what was going on in China. Most churches did this at the time, there was no mass communication.
When news came on about the attach I could understand why they wanted bomb Native girls in grass shirts dancing and their grass roofed huts made no since to me.

In less than 1 hours our family was in shock who was on what ship are they dead or alive. My world just got turned upside down.
So WWII started for me.

Some very good points Warrior. When it comes down to it we all live in freedom and we all are free to choose what to collect.Although i would not collect LAH i understand many do and that is their choice.I personally do not collect Japenese troops either but that is my bussiness and i won't sit here and say everyone else shouldn't either.I also think the article went to absurd levels in suggesting we could see figures depicting Jewish people being led off to the Gas chambers.I think Andy is a shrewd enough operator to realise that it would be about as popular as a scorpion in a jock strap.

No i think this chap is trying to get a response,he's probably read our thoughts on this already. At the end of the day everyone is different and will draw the line they won't go over at different points.I have had people say to me 'how can you collect any toy soldiers at all'?.I reply with two reasons.Firstly its my tiny tribute if you like to those who gave their lives so i could live in freedom. And secondly i have an unquenchable interest in WW1 and WW2 that i have had from the age of seven. Each to their own i say.

I can see your point but if a regular advertiser is guaranteed positive reviews and immune from bad ones then surely that magazine would lose all credibility very quickly?

Good point Eazy ,I thought it was a fair enough article
We all have different opinions. I dont collect lah and i
would buy this set only for the car to use in a different
scene.

Further to Eazy's point, whether or not you agree with the article, it's good to see critical evaluation from all angles of manufacturers' products and not just provide unstinting praise for everything produced, as was the tendency in the past. Many newspapers may criticize a manufacturer's products but that doesn't stop them from continuing to advertise in that publication. I'm sure this situation will not be any different as it is a symbiotic relationship between the two.

I say all news is good news.

When i ran Tennis and Health Clubs there was an accident where a child was badly hurt and sued my company. It was in national papers and local. We had the highest sign up of new members the weeks after the article was written.

This was also due to the fact that one of my staff saved the girls life.........so may have been an accident that could / should had never happened but showed my professional staff were compitant. I ran a counter article giving my side which then gave us the 2nd highest influxs of new members.

All those people at teh show bought the magazine to read the article........well they will all see the gerat detail of carving and painting then flick to the back page and see all the other products........Andy could not have paid for this kind of advertsising.

Scott could thread though!

Tony

Rob,
Scorpion in a jock strap..........don't write bits like that while I am having a sip of coffee, ok, as my computer doesn't like getting sprayed with hot liquids....................funny stuff mate.

You all make excellent points, we'll see how all of this plays out, my guess is K & C will come out of this more popular than ever, there is no such thing as bad publicity in these cases...................

People who collect K&C do not do so for their child like innocence. C'mon Stuart. There is a reason I don't buy them. They are not toys they are military scale figures! This does not take away from the quality of the product. It is a choice !
