Re the discussion on the wearing of British Army battle dress in the desert. I remember when I was in the Marines back in the mid 70’s we took part in a live-firing exercise in Morocco (North Africa) with the Moroccan Army...during the day it was blistering hot...and at night it would “freeze the balls off a brass monkey”. So, wearing BD in the desert was definitely right on...here’s some pix to prove it.

Hi Eazy,

By itself there's no problem with the 25 pounder uniforms but if you're mixing it with guys in shorts from other sets it might look a tad stange, if you care about those sort of things.

Crete and FOB would be absolutely A-OK! :)

Yep my intention is to mix them in with the 8th Army advancing under fire set and the Indian machine gun set to provide some tough opposition for the fallschirmjagers.
Maybe throw in the FOB vickers tank and the dingo and it's good to go.

Throw in that Matilda James and the Jerries are on the back foot!;)

Rob

I'm ashamed I didn't think of that! Nice one Rob!
Mind it'll have to be the FOV one. :)

I'd love a troop of Matildas, its funny even though its not a huge German monster or as famous as the Sherman i just love the Tank.I really like the sky Blue Camo as well.

...so it is only the Crete & Sicily (maybe) campaigns that these uniforms got intrmingled? Aside from the Vickers, was the Honey Tank (British version of M3 Stuart)ever used during these campaigns?
Thanks

Hi N-P
I don't think there were Honeys in Crete. Vickers definitely were and the Matilda.

Rob, I like the Matilda camo too with it's sky blue banding. Do you know what the story is behind that type of camouflage as most desert camouflage just seems to be sandy?

James,i believe (and i'm quite prepared to be wrong)that the Blue camo is a Royal Navy camo that some clever chap in the MOD thought would work on Tanks, especially on the Horizon. They tried it and it was successful.I'm not sure however if it was used on the bigger tanks.
