Chris! I have found that the occaisional "Red Llobster" gift card goes along way in keeping the irration on my collecting compulsion from getting out of hand.
O.C.

IMO, it's a price increase. What used to be a 4-man set that goes for $79 is now $100 (@$25 each). The $25 per piece started in e-bay when some dealers decided to break up sets.

:( The Older Sets had more Metal on their Bodies and Some of the Faces were Good quality! The NEW Stuff may look Pretty but they're cutting down on Body SIZE Statue! And they're SMALLER! And the Vehicles got Smaller!

I will take any advice offered to me by my senior brethern. My wife loves to eat (as do I) so any food offering is always a good thing.

I can see your point, I guess I would challenge that, from my perspective, the price increase swung into effect with the FJ sets earlier on than the EBay set breakups. I clearly remember the jumps to $90/set and being taken aback then. But looking back on it, the quality went up as well.

Bottom line to me anyway, if I throw KC $1-$2 extra per figure and that keep my wife off my back because I ain't gotta tell her I spent $95-$105 for a set of figures, then that's a price I am MORE than willing to pay. :D:D

Also, the other good thing I have found with this is that more people are buying me figures for my birthday, christmas, etc. You tell people- hey, I want this set of figures for $90 and they are taken aback- you tell them, Hey- look, I want some of these figures at $25/ piece- it gets a lot more reasonable for them to do. Trust me man, you gotta understand the cheap Bas#@#$ds I am related to- everything has a price.:eek:

Another thing- I can also split up and buy stuff from a few different sets- I did this a couple weeks ago- got AR01 and AE16 for $50!!

STANDS ALONE!!

You've got your facts a little wrong. It hasn't been $79 for awhile. About a year or so ago (or maybe more), Andy announced a price increase so that a four man set is not between $85 and $89. That works out to $21.25 per figure for an $85 set and $22.25 for an $89 set. Since then, prices seem to have gone up but not by that much. I just recently received the German Tank Crew set, a five figure set that works out to $115 or $23 a figure. That's hardly much of a raise and the costs of making figures (or anything for that matter) are going up. Even at $25 a figure, that's not a huge increase. If increased quality and choices mean I have to pay a little more, I'm willing to do it.

I also much prefer buying the figures individually, because as mentioned it lets me omit the figures I don't want.

The other big bonus, returning to the quality issue (for just a brief moment I promise :D), is if I receive a single figure with something defective on it, it's a heck of a lot easier to either buy a duplicate replacement for $25, or send that one fig back to the dealer rather than having to return a whole set even though 3 of the 4 are in perfect condition.

That said, the four figure sets are kind of special because they remind me of Ron Volstad's vignette paintings. On online catalogues the single figures don't look quite as enticing in pictures by themselves. I guess that's what the dramatic displays on the K&C website are for.

As for prices, I guess they are starting to creep upwards a little but I'm not complaining. It hurt a bit to have to pay $39 for one figure - the NA126 Coldstream Guard flag bearer - but he was worth it.

Here is my problem...I want them all! I think e-bay takes care of the individual collectors for broken up sets....I'll take a 1 box of 4 anyday.

Chris. Buck up you think your related to cheap Bassenthusiast??
I still get bags of plastic green armymen...Soldiers is Soldiers!!!

Johns right here about the shrinking size, it's getting to the a point that figures from just a couple of years ago can't be displayed together without serious illusion. Take the figures from the matilda or aussies and stand them next to the figs from the desert vickers and you see what I mean. there taller but the general bulk of the older figures really is significant.

How did that one famous line go in Braveheart:

"Some men are longer than others..":D:D

I really don't mind it at all- you guys are definately correct but in truth, I guess I just chalk it up to some guys being taller than other guys and that works for me. It's bad enough they all loose their personalities being dressed in uniforms- at least the 1:30 vs 1:32 debate can generate guys of different sizes. :D

I'm 6' 2" myself- about 85% of the troops were my size or smaller, the remaining balance were taller.

One little "Special effect" you can consider going with is displaying the taller guys towards the back of your cases, dios,. etc.

I'm not sure what it is, but it's covered in a barnacles, I'll have to get my first mate to give it a good rub down.

Who's the crew of the HMAS Ozdigger?
Captain Pugwash and his merry band of henchmen? Do they include Roger the Cabin Boy? Think the Masters surname was Bates.
