Hi Guys,
This is Brett Williams from The Military Workshop in Brisbane, Australia. Ex- Royal Hong Kong Police (like Andy of K&C) and saw K&C starting as my wife used to work in shop next to K&C. Migrated to Oz in 1997 before the handover in Hong Kong and started dealing in K&C about five years ago.
Being from UK and son of Army Officer I go for the historical figures rather than WWII. Napoleonics my main area of interest. Recently bought the Crimean range which were great although still cursing K&C UK for getting that as an exclusive range !!!
So far K&C has done well in covering areas of interest to collectors. Naturally I have been requesting the Lighthorse Charge at Beersheba and I hope that and Aussies in Gallipoli and the Western Front are included in the WWI range in due course.
However I need some backup from forum members ! I have been requesting that Andy (K&C) do Rorkes Drift / Zulu Wars. I personally like this campaign/battle and think very popular with most guys due to the great movie and the fact 11 VC's in one day. His response is that most other toy soldier companies have done it already and therefore not planning to do it. Whilst I respect his right to make commercial decisions I strongly believe that a K&C Rorkes Drift range would be incredibly popular.
If you would be interested in such a range please add your support via this forum. If you are a collector or dealer and see Andy at a show also consider mentioning it if you think a good idea.
In the meantime best wishes to all forum members.
Regards Brett Williams

PS Before I came to Oz I had never met or heard of any other Brett other than Brett Maverick (from the Western series) and Brett Sinclair (Roger Moore in The Pursuaders TV serives). However down under it is almost as common as John and first person I ever met here was a Brett !

Welcome to the forum Brett, hope you enjoy. As you say the Zulu wars are very popular there are many on this forum who collect them.I have a modest Rorkes drift collection myself made up of figures from Trophy,Little Legion,Anni etc.Whether Andy will make them is a whole different ball game.I'm not sure he will make them anytime soon but hey, anythings possible!. I too am hoping for some Brits/Aussies at Gallipoli,i'm sure with todays quality they would be great.

Hi Brett,
'Sfunny, I always thought the most common name in Oz was "Bruce-I Hate The Poms"...only kidding :)

Regarding Rorkes Drift, yes great idea. But have you seen the amount of new stuff that K&C have been churning out lately? All of it is astonishing in quality.
I had been considering turning my back on WW2 and concentrate on NAP's and getting a few more Crusaders, but the new SAS/LRDG figures are simply irresistable. If K&C were to begin a new range called, say, Victoria's little wars (my prime interest BTW) then I'd have to turn to a life of crime to afford it all.:rolleyes::cool:

Never turn your back on WW2 mate!,its THE K&C range!!;)

Hi Brett,

y'know i seem to recall hearing that the Colonial period was going to be revisited by K&C in their anniversary year. Not sure if that's 2008 or 2009 but I reckon Zulu wars are a safe bet for then.

Dear H and Rob,
Good to hear from you.
Talking about Aussie names. When Elite/BBI did an Action Figure of an Australian in the Pacific they called him Paddy !!! Not actully come across to many Bruces.
You guys do realise that in the American Revolution the British were the good guys !!! (note : that is like me telling an Aussie Churchill was a great war leader ! - they always come back with something about Gallipoli and Singapore).

Welcome Brett. I have also been campaigning for more Zulu war figures from K&C for several years now. Andy's early efforts (1987-1989) on the subject were apparently less limited than the flyers led me to believe (as evidenced by a spate of e-bay auctions with what looks like around three additional poses), but only included one dismounted 24th foot officer shooting a pistol over his dead horse. His 1994-1996 Zulu war releases were some of his best efforts in glossy figures, with 9 different Zulu warrior poses and a really well built wood and papier mache burning farmhouse from Rorke's Drift. I believe that Zulu war figures offered in either gloss or matt finish (preferably buyers choice of both) in todays level of quality would sell like hotcakes.

Andy has indicated that he is considering addressing his early (1984-1989) subjects as a special 25th Anniversary release for Christmas 2008 into 2009, but he appeared to be speaking more of the Seaforths on the northwest frontier then Zululand. I guess we will just have to wait and see. K&C is making so many wonderful products right now it is hard for a reasonable collector to complain.

I Would Get Into A Zulu War Collection. I Would Just Have To Work Some Overtime To Pay For Everything.

Add me to this list. I think there would be many collectors who would buy it just because it's King and Country, even though many other companies have done it.

As far as Chamberlain goes, I don't think that his role in foreign affairs can be viewed with anything but scorn. I understand, however, that by prior to entering parliamentary politics, he was very forward looking and did many ggod things so I wouldn't totally dismiss him out of hand.

Iwould be in favor of a glossy or matte Zulu series. John

I'm just as fault as anybody else but could we stay on topic so Andy can see how we feel about getting these re-issued?

I'm moved the posts (to the exent I could) to a new thread entitled "Neville Chamberlain" in the Historical Discussion section.

I thought all Aussies were called Bruce or Sheila.
I support the Zulu War idea though
Regards
Damian

A Zulu War series would be spectacular, I am sure. However, Andy does have his plate full and there is only so much he can do at one time. There are some exceptional Zulu War ranges from other manufacturers, albeit in 54-mm. In glossy, you have an extensive line from both Imperial and Trophy; in matte, you have a marvelous line from Frontline which includes all the Victoria Cross winners plus other personalities. I have an extensive collection of all three and probably would not buy King & Countrys line for that reason.

Thought I'd add sa few more photos for an incentive......The Lt.
