Here are 2 new books (Desert Raiders & Desert Rats)just published by Osprey that will appeal to those ordering the new 8th Army items from K&C: They are $23.95 each. Notice Major Stirling on the cover of Desert Raiders.
Unfortunately the volumes on the LRDG and SAS and Montgomery's Desert Army are not currently available (see pix below)

I think there's also one out or soon to be out about Rommel.

Also, for out of print Osprey books, ebay can be quite useful.

There are two other Osprey's about to be released that look very good.'Churchill Crocodile' and 'Sherman Flail tank'(November). Also their new 'Duel' series looks interesting, with one of the early releases being 'Tiger v Firefly'.

Yes I too have flipped over the new K&C SAS stuff and hope to add it all to my collection. Let's hope that Andy will include Lawrence of Arabia et al for the WWI line and eventually some 19th C Anglo-Sudan sets for a Queen and Country series. BTW have you seen these items from Del Prado: 1.WWI Ottoman Turk 2. Monty's Desert Army and 3.Lawrence & Arab Revolt. Each is from one of the Osprey Books Men-At-Arms Series.. At the moment only #1 is out--others are future releases. I have the Ottoman Turk which is quite nice although, of course, not K&C. Glad you ordered the books.

Thanks - I will keep an eye out for the Del Prado figures !

We cant have enough World War I stuff in my opinion - I really like Del Prado figures because they are good figures and add to a diorama for a very cheap price. I ususally have 10 - 1 (K&C figures to Del Prado) in my dioramas and the Mounted Figures really help too.

Not too long ago on Ebay - I found a mounted French Napoleon Officer on a Camel for the Eygpt Campaign - man he is great. I also have used several British Mounted Del Prado in my Waterloo Square Diorama :D

I don't know about the first and third figures, but the one from Eighth Army has been out for some time as I have in my collection. He's a Captain of Royal Fusiliers and it's a pretty well made figure. Not all Del Prados are but this one came out nice.

Brad

You have to admit that they make great filler for diaoramas and by in large have a decent appearance - no tthe quality of K&C - but for different poses and structure for battlelines they do the job - IMO.

I actually do like them quite a bit Ron. I think the Captain of Royal Fusiliers is well done as are ones such as a German figure from 1939 and some of the pilots. Not all are great but some are not bad. I don't have any of the Napoleonics but they seem like they're the best that K & C makes for Del Prado.

If your going to try experimenting in converting figs, I recommend the Del Prado line, cheap and the right scale. These 2 are the officier previously shown on the thread(Middle) and the gurka fig.

Ray,

They are some neat conversions. Where did you get the alternate weapons from? And did you use a putty for the head gear?

Cheers

Simon,
I switched the right arms of the 2 figs. the gurka arm had the Tommy gun already and I just cleaned up the officers hand and remove what was there and put a 21st century jerry can in it's place. I picked up a set of extra weapons from the K&C Arnhem set and thats were the sten gun came from. And yup, the head gear is just green stuff from the tube.
Ray ;)

What other Osprey World War II books good to have - what are everyone favorites ??

I like the Crete one. It has some really nice colour plates in it.

Well i like just about all the ranges Osprey produce. The 'New Vanguard' series for instance. Now these cover all WW2 AFV's and guns. They are very good for giving you a brief History of the development, performance and facts and figures of the machine in question.I have an Osprey book for pretty much every K&C vehicle i have and most that we have at the IWM.So i have the Sherman,Churchill,Tiger,Panther,T34,M10,Jagdpanther,WW1 Tank, amongst many others. As Brad has said before these are not indepth studies but more a brief overview of the subject.

I also have many of the 'Campaign' series including Normandy,El Alamein,Stalingrad,Falaise,Battle of the Bulge,Operation Cobra Etc,Waterloo etc. These give you a basic grounding of the Campaign and are a springboard for researching more in depth info.

They can be quite a bit cheaper on Amazon than buying direct from Osprey

As for favorites,i like them all!:)

Rob

Thanks Rob - I will start getting some of the books on Panthers, Tigers and other German vehicles.
