King and Country War Birds (1 Viewer)

what scale are they in combat?

It varies a bit. Most WWII fighters are 1/30 or 1/32. WWI fighters are usually 1/24 (these are from my recollection). Typically the bigger the actual plane the smaller the scale to keep it to a reasonable size. You can probably contact them about specific planes and scales.

Re: Battle of The Bulge

does any one make a good quality me262 or does king and country plan on making one?

King & Country has made two versions of the ME262 to date, a regular ME262 swallow fighter and a ME262a2 bomber varient (one of a kind). I don't know if they will address this aircraft again in future.

Im guessing no one resells warbirds?

People do but you sort of have to be able to find them. It's a lot of word of mouth and acting on tips, hunches, etc. or I wouldn't I have the six that I do. There's a lot of networking involved. The more "common" ones tend to be found more easily, i.e. Spitfires and ME 109s. After that it gets much harder.

I have nine 1/32 scale mahogany Warbirds in my collection; all are from Toys & Models Corporation. While they are not up to the standard of K&C's new limited edition releases, they are great values by comparison.

Photo one: Junkers Ju-87 Stuka and Messerschmitt Me-110.

Photo two: Chance-Vought F4U-4 Corsair and Lockheed P-38J Lightning.

Photo three: Curtis P-40 Warhawk and North American P-51D Mustang.

Photo four: Mitsubisi A6M5 Zero and Messerschmitt Me-262 Swallow.

Photo five: De Havilland FB VI Mosquito.

Re: Battle of The Bulge

Apparently the Germans also even tried using divers against the bridge at night. However they were driven off by American spotlights and machine Guns.Rob

Another opportunity for K&C - a US Canal Defense Light tank! These were highly secret conversions of M3 mediums to carry the CDL. Tanks were code named "Leaflet", although the crews called them "heaters". Project Cassock was a joint US/UK operation to open the night to massed armor, but the secrecy kept them from being used en-masse. A few were used at Remagen and some of the British versions were used to support Monty's big Rhine crossing.

With most of the sites selling these. the average price seems to be $149.99....I got a Motion Models desert Stuka off ebay for $89 with shipping included. It is well made and nicely detailed. My plane turned out to be 1/30 scale, while most are 1/32. I would suggest getting actual specs for the original and then downscaling it to what the Length and Wingspan would be in 1/30. Since the sizes for these planes are all over the place, you might find one ,whose L and W are closest to K/C size....Michael

There are also ebay sellers and some of their offerings look nice. I've been tempted in the past.

Ron,

I have bought them over the past 10 years. Four on eBay, four at the West Coaster, and one from another collector. Don Taylor, a retired U.S. Navy pilot, use to sell them at the West Coaster; I got a color catolog and spec /price sheet from him. The sizes are all over the place, even for the same airplane. You can get the P-51, for example, in three different scales with different markings. I paid from $75 to about $150 for the models.

Unfortunately, Don had a serious stroke several years ago and stopped coming to the West Coaster. I phoned him in 2005 when I heard he would be attending again (but not as a dealer) and asked him to bring whatever he had left to sell. I bought two Spitfires from him of the American Eagle Squadron. They are unusual in that one side of the model has the correct British markings and the other side has the American markings after they became part of the U.S. Army Air Corps. I was going to display them nose-to-nose, so you could see both sides, but never did (no room).

If anyone is interested in one or both of these Spitfires (landing gear up), I would be willing to sell them for $100 each plus $10 shipping. I believe they might be 1/30 scale since they seem larger than the K&C Spitfire I sold to a member of this forum a while back. I also have another P-38 Lightning, but in a smaller scale. It is Major Richard Bong's plane "Marge" who was the number one ace in WWII with 40 victories in the Pacific. He was killed in 1945 testing one of our new jet fighters.

Michael (or anyone else?)

How does that Motion Model do next to the current AK K&C figures ?? A good size match or not? The EA and AK range seems to drift from 1/30 to 1/32 on different figures - I would like to make a scene with the AK 27 figures and the Desert Stuka - I just dont know if they would look good together??

Any insights would be helpful - thanks.

Ron

Ron,

This Stuka is 1/30 scale as I did the math, actual measurements vs size of model......Michael
