JB sent me this self painted Mountie half way around the world. This figure will be displayed in a prominent place within my collection in honor of friendships made from this Forum. I've said many times that JB is a good guy and he is! Thanks JB.

I thought that I would just put a word or two "out there", about this figure.

It is, of course, a Hollowcast Mounted RCMP Trooper, originally made by John Hill & Company (Johillco), the mould pre-dateing WW2.

The figure that I sent however, was made at Dorset Soldiers in the UK - in April 2015. Giles Brown, the owner, was offered an old mould, that required a bit of repair - and after buying and repairing it - is now using it to make genuine figures from it, once again. Whilst I was there I tried my hand at casting - but was rubbish at it ( it probably requires a bit more practice). Giles tells me that the same source he bought this mould from, has offered him some others - so doubtless, more hollowcast figures will become available, from time to time.

I did notice how surprisingly light it was when I picked it up and knew it was hollow cast. After receiving the figure I checked JB's Tribe of Injuns thread and saw its brother there. Thanks again JB.

That's correct chum - he's a hollowcast from an original mould which dated from 1920/30's - but actually made in April 2015.

He is a little heavier than an original though - because I put him on a light-alloy base (pinned through into the legs), as these figures can be easily broken by dropping/knocking over etc. My original you refer to was found damaged like this - but your guy is perfect!

I also have another "new-oldie" - just like yours - but hadn't finished him due to having to catch a 'plane. When I get back in November - I'll complete him - but I wanted to finish yours off first - and get him "posted". I'll bet there won't be many Mounties in Hawaii ! {sm4} jb
