I missed this set first time round and I'm currently giving serious thought to buying from a number of sources ,but a little question has arisen that hopefully someone on the forum can help with.

On Britain's website none of the figures have the number 84 on their Pickelhauben cover, but on at least two of the sets available 2 of the soldiers do, and it is in black.

Any comments, were 2 versions produced or has someone added a little detail to their figures?

I checked the set we have on Consignment and it appears 2 of the figures do have the "84" on their covers.

Possibly an added detail after the Stock Photo was taken?

The helmet cover numbers look to be add-ons. None of the sets of this series that I own have helmet cover numbers. The vast majority of actual pickelhaube helmet cover numbers appear to have been either red or green, although black is also in evidence. -- Al

Hi,

As far as I am aware (I bought all the early war period Britains as they came out) all the German machine gun sets in question had two figures wearing numbered pickelhaubes - mine certainly did.

The only other numbered pickelhaube issued by Britains that I am aware of was the single standing firing figure.

As for the numbers not appearing in the Stock photo - well, if you look at some of the Britains stock photos for this series they do look quite different to the actual production figures!

Cheers,

Roy

Hello All,

Many thanks to all that responded. I can see that the situation is not as clear cut as I wanted. If I decide to buy will take into account the information provided. I suspect my question may be somewhat akin to asking what is the correct shade of blue for a Napoleonic French infantry habit of the proper shade of grau for the German tunic in either WW1 or WW2.

Once again thanks for the responses.
