Hi Guys,

One of the major display / dioramas we will be showing at Chicago is our "DUNKERQUE 1940".

Here are some pix showing the actual progress of the model in its various stages...

Part One... 'The Early Stages'
Part Two... "The Latter Stages"

This 'Part Two' will be shown on Monday.

All the best and have a great weekend!
Andy

I hope those eyeglasses are the right scale :wink2:

A labour of love to be sure Andy. The rescue vessel is a beauty. Will be even better when figures are scattered around. This will be a real crowd pleaser. You will be no doubt be proud to stand behind this diorama on the day. Look forward to seeing the end result. Robin.

Andy,
WOW ... I can't wait to slip down to the K&C room to see this marvel in person. Absolutely a fantastic piece.

Thank you for showing some of the stages of development as it shows the tremendous amount of work that goes into building something like this center piece.

Looking forward to seeing you guys in a few weeks.

Amazing, Andy!!
I am sad I can not go to the Chicago show! But I hope to see the dioramas on the December London Show?

Thanks for sharing.

Nice Andy!

Thanks for showing just how you made this one!

Every one of Gordon's dios has at least one person say I g to themselves 'OMG that is awesome I need this!' So tutorials of how he makes them would be a great thing for many of us!

Hope all is well in HK!

Scott

amazing diorama. Love the rescue boat.

Andy,
Outstanding and beautiful! Another remarkable Gordon masterpiece! {bravo}}Too bad I won't be able to make to Chicago this year again (Brazil is still under a heavy crisis…), and get to see you, Gordon and all the magic you bring to the show...:redface2:

Wow, that is very cool. Will look great packed with figures.

Hi Brian (Warbuff 26),

If you like what you have seen so far...Wait till you see what's coming on Monday!!!

Gordon and yours truly always describe our display/dioramas as a bit like designing and building old-style movie backlot sets...albeit in miniature.

Over the years, thanks to friends and contacts in the hobby, both of us have been fortunate while visiting L.A. to actually walk around Universal, Warner Brothers, 20th. Century Fox and ParamountStudios...All four have backlots...Universal being the most famous and the easiest , of course, to get access to, because of its world-famous 'tour'.

The other three are 'working studios' and therefore access can be a wee bit harder...but it's always worth it to see how the expert craftsmen and set designers can transform simple wood and plaster and paint (in most cases) into all kinds of stone, brick, marble and even all kinds of metalwork!!!

In the movie business the old adage firmly applies: "It doesn't actually have to be real...It only has to look real...on camera!"

Both 'G' and me love toy soldier making and collecting...But they really 'come alive' when you design and build a little, miniature 'movie set' to put them on!

'Camera...Lights...Action!'
Andy.

Andy, A truly Superb Diorama ! Should give some "Shock and Awe" a la K&C style for the Chicago Show {bravo}}

Many thanks Wayne...you really should come to the 'Chicago Show' ( every collector should at least once)...

It's the most fun you can have with your clothes on!!!

Enjoy your weekend, Andy.

Hi Sammy,
Many thanks for the appreciative comments...Sadly Gordon will not be joining us in Chicago...Although much better after his major operation his doctors advise that a long trans Pacific flight over to Chicago (15 hours non stop) would be too taxing...However, he will definitely be there in spirit!
....And his handiwork and talent will also be much n evidence!

Have a great weekend, Andy.

Too bad Andy. Please him my best. Frankly, a 15 hour flight is very taxing, no matter how good a shape you're in. Been there, done that.

Please give Gordon my best wishes for a speedy recovery. His sense of humor and wit will be missed in Chicago.

My same sentiments, Andy. Give Gordon my best.
The last few years when he was in your room I always asked him, "HOW did you manage to .. "do this or build that."

Then he would say, with a smile ... "Oh, I can't divulge trade secrets," but he would then describe the total process in detail.{sm3}

Truly a wonderful gentlemen.
