Ikea Fabrikor Wide Display Cabinet (1 Viewer)

I believe that this is a relatively new product from Ikea:





There are actually two models of "Fabrikor" cabinet, BTW, the other model having been on the store's inventory for several years. The interior space is 31 x 15.5 inches, which is nice because it will accommodate deck sections that I've purchased from JJD recently. Another plus is that it's easy to assemble, unlike the infamous "Klingsbo" cabinets (for instance). Finally, the color is something of a cross between the Navy Blue and Sea Blue camouflage colors that many USN vessels were painted, early in WW2:



If you're lucky enough to have a Ikea store down the road, the retail is $169. If it has to be shipped, that number will jump fairly dramatically.

That's a perfect cabinet for those WWII planes - visually very fitting. Really looks good.

Yeah, I saw that in their catalog online. It reminds me of cabinets from the doctor's office, when I was a kid. It's available in gray, too:

What's really screwy is that there are examples available through Amazon sellers, listing at $499! How they think someone will pay over twice what Ikea is asking, I'm not sure.

There is another "Fabrikor" model, which has a single door and is about half the volume of that other model:

That one is also listed for $169 and is available in dark grey, beige, or red.

Both are pretty nice cabinets.

Just checked on our IKEA site, and the single door one costs AUS$179 or US$135 !!!

Can't be the freight because we are just as close to China, where they are made !!!!!
Must be import duty or some sort of US tax

The one in Moe's pic is A$249 in Oz Ikea which seems reasonable. It is a self assembly item. Also comes in a light grey but Moe's colour choice (described as blue) is ideal for planes.

Great collection of aircraft and very nicely displayed in your new cabinet. I agree with what you and others have said, the paint and finish on that cabinet makes it a very apropos waty to display them.

There's one other worthwhile feature of the cabinet which I forgot to mention...

Unlike MANY of the cabinets sold at Ikea, this one is relatively "tight" in it's design and construction. It's not completely dustproof, but it doesn't have the sizeable gaps around the doors that the Detolf and Klingsbo display cases evidence. In fact, it appears to be tighter in this regard than either my Pulaski or Howard Miller curios. I live in TX, and the dust is the heavy, coarse variety. I hate the stuff.

Do read the reviews, though, if you're interested in buying this cabinet. It sounds like it's a little tricky to hang the doors correctly; there are comments about how they are crooked. We can even see this in Moe's photo. However, there is a comment that offers good advice about trueing them up. I may get one, myself. I think I'll ask if they'll sell me additional shelves, too.

Hi Brad,

I forgot to mention that the legs have built-in, screw-type levelers in each leg. After I saw my pics, I realized that the doors weren't square. I was able to remedy this by adjusting those same fittings. There was actually another hint that the case was out of level, that being the tendency of the doors to swing to the right, unaided, when opened. After proper leveling, both problems resolved.

I know what these people suffered and it is because they over tightened the screws too early. It is easy to miss in the directions but you need to hang the doors and then do the final tightening.

What I was told on additional shelves is they do not sell them or send them. You can go to the service desk in a store and if they are in stock they will sell them to you. Haven’t tried but will over the holidays.

Does anyone have experience with the IKEA Milsbo display cabinet. I like it, but I wish it was a little deeper.
