Hi guys!
There's so much that could potentially happen over the next twelve months.....and it is very hard to restrain from commenting on what you
think will be produced, rather than what you'd
like K&C to produce
But... off the top of my head, if the ACW series develops in 2008 in the same way as WWI seems to be going, then I'd expect more Confederate infantry, with the focus being on more "action" orientated poses, loading, firing, etc., followed presumably by some bluecoat opposition later in the year?
Anything but an expert on the period, but that does seem to be the approach that was taken with the initial Great War offerings, with the first German releases of more "relaxed" marching and parading officers and other ranks being supplemented later on with more combat type figures.
Napoleonics-wise (always a big one for me), quite hard to tell actually!
The withdrawal of the Highland Light Infantry sets does raise some wild hopes of the new Coldstream figures receiving some redcoat back-up in the form of a nice, stolid English county regiment in stovepipe shakoes like the 4th, 33rd, 50th Foot, etc., or even, joy beyond joy, the sword-bayonets and Baker rifles of His Majesty's 95th!! However, with the (relatively) similar KGL skirmisher figures only just being retired, and a major British infantry release already in recent months, it would seem an unlikely fantasy
Still I've no doubts at all that 2008 will bring some interesting releases of some variety to this period, all of which will gain automatic entry to my shopping list!
As regards WWII, I'd have to back up all of those who've already called for more bog-standard German infantry! They certainly aren't the flashiest troop-type for the period, and will always fare poorly in the collecting stakes against "sexier" German forces like Falschirmjaegar or Waffen SS, but nonetheless, history records the ordinary grey tunics of the Wehrmacht certainly were there, and certainly played an overwhelming part in the Third Reich's war effort.
As had been floated already, some early-war Wehrmacht figures to give the Dunkirk Brits and French some opposition would be superb, as equally would be some late-war infantry types with splinter-pattern helmet covers, ankle gaiters, etc., just to provide something a different dimension of opposition for all those D-Day onwards Americans, Russkies, Brits, etc.. The limited "Occupation" releases from earlier this year did provide some interesting examples of ordinary German ground-pounders, with the marching late-war infantryman, and his colleague on sentry duty with great-coat both standing out in my mind as particularily well done.
Anyway, here's hoping that no matter what period(s) grab our attention, there'll be something for everybody next year!
Happy collecting,
Molloy
