While Hungarian traditional clothing is the inspiration for much of modern military fashion, I have seen few toy soldier depictions of Hungarian troops. The only exception to this seems to be Napoleonic and WW1 Hungarian unite fighting for Austria-Hungary, although even among these depictions, few focus on the Honvéd.

I would love to see people’s pictures of Hungarian toy soldiers or hear about releases I may not be aware of.

On a related note, I am curious to see if anyone would collect Hungarian figures if more were to become available. Options included Hungarian-Turkish wars (Eger, Moháks) and the 1848 revolution.

I commissioned several World War II Hungarian sets from Hiriart which are now in my collection. They included Hungarian infantry in summer uniforms, Fiat-Ansaldo L3/35 tankettes, and Hungarian cavalry. These are all 54mm glossy sets.

Andrew Rose of Bastion Models made two each of three special Hungarian sets for Robert Hume of Doppel Adler Soldaten. Mr. Hume retained one set and sold the second to me on behalf of my good friend R. Walker. The first is the Hungarian Crown Guard.

Wow! Thanks for sharing! I love the three Hungarian guard sets — I wish he made more!

You're welcome, glad to do it. If I could get four or five commitments, I could get Hiriart to make one or more of these three sets on the 2020 Hiriart order (the 150 set 2019 order is already complete). You can contact me at matara42@roadrunner.com if you would like to order any of these sets.

Bastion Models also made catalog set A.63 - 85TH HUNGARIAN INFANTRY REGIMENT.

Hi Hungarian Toy Soldiers are hard to find, unless you have special runs made by cottage industry artists as the ones shown coming from Hiriart and a few other makers....Austro Hungarian troops are a wee complicated to get, and when you do they are either parade dress or the standard WW1 fatigues, and mainly infantry.I had the luck to secure an Artillery set made by the now way gone Superior Miniatures matched to a garrison from John Eden´s stock.....Yet to match will be a second Austro Hungarian Beast of a mortar made by JJD and a garrison made by Superior Miniatures.....Here is the fist set...the second one will debout soemtime in 2019....The gun is ready but the garrison needs to be assembles and painted...:salute:::salute:::salute::

This is the second mortar garrisoned by Austro Hungarian troops...This is a stock picture of the set...look froward to finish the garrison to a very close style as the one on the photo...The mortar will be different...it will be the heavier model made by JDD...

My period of interest in Hungarian military is the 15th century when the Hungarians were led by the legendary Janos Hunyadi against the Ottomans.

Mainly the same for me, although I would also love to see ‘48 and ‘56 stuff.

I love the stuff you picked up in Budapest, Dave! I may go there on my way home from Israel, I will have to see if I can find stuff.

Mike — I will be in touch!

Doppel Adler Soldaten produced several Hungarian Army sets including Set 3A HUNGARIAN INFANTRY with an officer and five men. There is also Set 3B with six men (not shown).

Hi Sandor,

I am currently asking for a show of interest regarding having Hiriart make a set of the Hungarian Trabanten Guard on the 2020 order. If you are interested, please email me at matara42@roadrunner.com. Thanks.

Mike
