I'm pretty sure that the M52 was the post-war ambulance, based on the M37-series 3/4-ton trucks. The WW2 field ambulance was the WC54, based on the Dodge 3/4-ton series of light trucks. Andy did one early in the DD-series, but I DO agree that it is overdue for a re-make to the current standard.
The M29 is a nice idea - one could be set up as a medical "Weasel" and posed with the WC54 in a medical setting (casualty collecting point or battalion aid station). Due to good performance in the snow and mud, the M29 and M29C (amphibious version) were often used to evacuate casualties from front line areas to the rear.
