Hello do you think that this figure, http://www.teamminiatures.com/show_imgnews.asp?id=595&big_sortid=83, could pass for the infantry figure in this plate? Thanks. Benjamin

Yes, looks like the same era wearing same style of webbing.

You have linked to the officer who has leather webbing unlike this soldier who has the white.

The other highlanders by Team are both wearing kilts and are Gordon Highlanders, while the solderer in the picture is wearing trews looks like a King's Own Scottish Borderers, going on the tartan.

Thank John. I appreciate it.

The link to the Team Miniature page shows a Gordon Highlander officer wearing trews. Officers often wore trews.
I've attached images of both Gordon and King's Own Scottish Borderer trews for comparison. The Gordons trews are the ones on a hanger.
The Borderers got authorisation to wear Leslie tartan trews in 1898, I believe, but wore possibly government tartan prior to that date, and grey trousers prior to that as they had initially very little in the way of Scottish badging/regalia. The Borderers pipers wore Royal Stewart kilts. Scottish regimental uniforms can be laberynthine at times.

Many thanks for your comments. Sometimes when I look at the tartans they seem the same to me, LOL. Maybe I need my eyes checked. lol
Best wishes,
Benjamin

Hello Benjamin -- - understandable, some of the regimental tartans worn by the old Scottish regiments are very similar. The Highland Light Infantry , from an Osprey publication, that you used in your original post, though a Highland regiment wore trews until 1947, Mac Kenzie No.5 tartan, while the Seaforth Highlanders wore the Mac Kenzie No2. tartan and of course wore the kilt, (though they also wore trews in another a totally different tartan, but that is another story).

For anyone interested in Scottish Regiments, including regiments abroad with Scottish links see-

http://www.regiments.org/regiments/rgtscot.htm

This is a good reference for the basics on Scottish and other regiments in The British Army, from a historical perspective, and that of the armies of Britain's former Empire.

Sorry all for the mini lecture.

Hi,
No need to apologize. In enjoyed your discussion as I did not realized the complexity of that subject. I tried the links and both came back "page not found."
Best wishes,
Benjamin

Hello Benjamin,

The site that I sent the link for was active just prior to posting the message on this thread. I "hate" it when site, that has been useful disappears.
Try this one, if interested in military tartan. Not as many pictures with examples, but has a list of the various regiments, British and elsewhere that wear tartan:- Regimental Tartans | Scottish Tartans Authority

Thanks for that link, it's so comprehensive even listing the tartans used by the colonial troops too, I'm sure I will put it to good use :)
