Not soldiers but can anyone tell me more about these Marx Hong Kong hard plastic civilian figures?

They remind me a series of presidents that they issued.

I had the same thought. It'd be worth it to find a picture of the Presidents set and compare the photo to it.

The only obvious difference I see is that the presidents had their last names in raised capital letters on the base, if I remember correctly.

A Marx catalog is something I don't have, unfortunately. Though, O'Brien does have a Marx article in at least one of the editions of "Collecting Toy Soldiers".

Prost!

I believe the presidents came in two sizes and were sold in sets and maybe individually. There also were at least some of the first ladies and a model of the white house. As a kid, I had one of the latter - it came with presidents through Ike, which was current at the time. I know they made later presidents but I don't know how far they went. Mine were white plastic but painted versions were available. They were interesting display pieces but not much fun to play with - maybe I should have separated them into Democrats and Republicans and let them fight it out! {sm4} The presidents, first ladies and white house are pretty common on eBay - check there for pix.
