This is my current little project that I have resurrected from the "shelf of doom" French Infantry Grenadier on Donkey Armee d' Orient c1798/99.
I originally had the figure mounted on a 100mm x 100mm base as I wanted to show the bare desert scenario.
I was not very happy with the conversion and the overall scene.
Then whilst making a little 1/76th AFV I removed the brolly as I wanted a beach umbrella in the smaller scale.
I thought at some point I would get around to ordering another brolly from John Eden which I never did.
So two days ago I decided to make my own from Tamiya quick drying putty plus fuse wire. I ended up making two. Whilst not perfect they will do me.
This is the Funcken image that I based my conversion on.
The donkey came as a spare part from Historex Agents and the figure from spares that I had sitting in a box. A mix of Airfix and Armii if I remember correctly.
After revamping the figure and base I thought that I would try painting it over the next few days.
I have undercoated the figure.
The donkey was originally painted brown and as there ended up being bare plastic and putty where I had modified legs I re-undercoated it and laid on on base of grey and off white Army Painter acrylics ready for oil paints.
Whilst the oil paints are drying I can paint the top half of the figure and so on. Takes about 3 days for oils to dry, white can be quite slow.
This is where I am at.
If I was to offer a critique the guy is perched too high and stiff rather than relaxed. Mabe the rat has scared the "living daylights" out of him and he is petrified whilst the donkey is very disinterested.
Whilst not a patch on the K&C version at least mine is in my preferred scale of 54mm (1/32nd) rather than 60mm (1/30th)
I do have a small group Hatchette French Foreign Legion figures (60mm) which I display with a couple of busts as they somewhat dwarf their 54mm cousins.
One day I will sell the 12 figures off or swap them them for some 54mm items.
I have a number of other so called 54mm figures that range in sizes to plus 60mm. Another reason why I individually base my figures and when I can I vary the heights of the bases.
Not all men are created equal. Lol
I have also found a great site for resizing images so I hope the images may improve. Time will tell.
