Nice ships, Mike. I have the Viking and a similar pirate ship. Not sure why, but I think pirate ships always look good on top of bookshelves and fireplace mantles.

I placed various Thomas Gunn figures on a Playmobil Roman ship some time ago, similar to what you did, Robin. Looked pretty good.

Love your use of the Roman ship, Robin. That pirate ship you had to part with is a nice one as well. I would love to get some 1:30 scale pirates but won't bring myself to paying $85 a figure for First Legion, even on sale. So for now, it's Playmobil figures with their pirate ships (which I love).

Great Playmobil collection Rob. I have two large pirate island sets, one of which had a small fort on it garrisoned by "soldiers of the crown". These were played with very hard by my grandchildren. Both are in a jumble of pieces now in a large box in a closet, some pieces missing and lost to time. Seeing your pictures makes me want to see what I can salvage.

Restoration projects are always fun, you should sort and see what you can locate. Good luck if you do.

Fortunately I had all the pieces, but this is my flagship. Just needed some dusting off, new flags and rigging. I've had on display since doing so:

Another fun aspect of Playmobil is their Christmas advent calendars. I picked this one up in 2008 (4156). The calendar offered little pirate accessories to create a small diorama with cardboard background.

Fun for the kids (and adult fans of Playmobil).

The creativity and design of some of these sets is equally impressive. Here's a set that is actually a small treasure chest that opens into a pirate scene complete with backdrops and packed full of pirate accessories:
