The main thing I think for these people was getting away from the Soviets, who as we know, also invaded Poland, and had forcibly moved many Poles to Siberia and only the Soviet Union becoming allied with Britain and the US etc when they were themselves invaded by the Germans, permitted their release from Soviet hospitality.
In a similar upheaval Ethnic Germans from the East lost their homes forever when the borders were redrawn at the end of the war, not just erasing East Prussia, but moving the borders of Poland further West as the Soviets, took chunks of Eastern Poland.
Agreed, and these Poles formed the divisions that fought in France and Italy.
Some 4 million Germans were displaced and most infants died during the relocations from Eastern Germany.
Likewise the German Sudetens were forced from their homes. And many were killed.
