The Northumberland Fusiliers and now by extention the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers wear a red over white "hackle" or properly a hackle plume. Hackles are the rounded feathers from bird's neck (usually chicken) most other plumes use cut feathers.

Unlike most film makers,(and southerners :)) don't make the mistake of thinking Hadrian's wall is also the Scottish border. There's an English county north of "The Wall" called Northumberland ! :)

I would say they were in American uniforms, dated just before or at the beginning of WW2. Every thing Mirof says is correct but during WW1 the US had a high closed collar. The American made version of the "Brody" helmet was worn up until 1941

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. Dark blue stripe. The trousers (breaches) themselves should be red. For some reason I painted the original in revers! ^&grin

Al, you are absolutely right, Bruce based these on my original painting! I haven't a clue why I painted the wrong colour, I've got any amount of good reference. I think I'll just put it down to a "senior moment" :)
I believe the stripe follows the tunic colour, so dark blue for cuirassiers...
