    General Scale Questions.

Scale is a proportion of the real thing. Lets say a rifle is 1000 mm long then in 1/30th scale 1000 divided by 30 equals 33.33 mm Any piece of equipment should always have the same size if it is the same scale. Human beings vary but scale does not. So a man standing five foot six inches (168...

Mounted sapper of the Empress Dragoons

There's some debate about how accurate all that gold lace is. If correct it would be a very senior rank. I believe the infantry sappers carried a short sword with an eagle hilt that also had a serrated edge, that could be used as a saw. Dragoons needed something a bit longer! :) Martin

Not that I know of. We are trying to find out what he did to earn the honours. We even have a record of Queen Elizabeth I ordering the Arch Bishop of Canterbury to sing cantata in the name of Tabony! Martin

    Make some new ranges!

Have you come across any mention of Alfonso Tabony. It was due to his actions at the siege of Malta that the Pope gave us an augmentation to our family arms. ( A red sleeved arm holding a heart) Martin

    Life Guards - 1837

The farrier, I've got a picture from 1830 showing him wearing the usual blue coat, but his head gear is a bell topped shako covered in fur! That picture is very interesting. A few points, The helmet was adopted in 1817 but the plates were not until 1822. The Household Cavalry didn't ride...

    Life Guards - 1837

The trumpeter definitely wore the helmet. The bearskin was reserved for special parades, the helmet was every day use (e.g. "Queen's Life Guard) I know I have pictures but it will take a very long time to go through everything. In the mean time a description. The basic uniform was that of a...

    Life Guards - 1837

Johnny, the bearskin was worn at the same time as the crested helmet, which I believe (off the top of my head) came in to use in 1817. I'm going to dig through what I have right now. Martin

    Life Guards - 1837

I think you're a bit mix up with your Household Cavalry history Johnny. The last picture is a member of the Royal Dragoons but they were never part of the Household Cavalry ?(note the line pattern black leather skull to the helmet). They were amalgamated with the Royal Horse Guards in 1969...

New Heritage WW1 figures - Australian Light Horse etc

I sculpted the figures to 1/30th scale, As in 30 x smaller than life size. Average height 5'8" or 173 cm divide by 30 = 57 mm. 6' or 183 cm = 61 mm. 6' 5" or 195 cm = 65 mm. Even in the guards I didn't know many people that were six foot five! :) They may not match in with other...
