Trying to track down a seller - Im in the UK - but google isn't helping - anyone got a link please? Would like both sets for my next Sitrukistan Aflame! game...
I like the look of the whole set! With those caps I reckon I could use them for preWWII too - for Back of Beyond border clashes in Strucistan...
Separating dog and handler might be a bit of fiddle but I'm sure it could be done. If you get two in a set (?) sacrificing one of each still gives...
Thanks Chris,
That's an interesting one because of the very, very detailed game mech. Any chance of a photo of a game please? If so, I could use this in a follow-up article specifically on rules.
Thanks again,
Mike

nysoldiers,
Many thanks for this. All interesting stuff, of course, but dare I say that what we need are less facts and more fun! :wink2: WHY 54mm? What's so great about it? Amusing stories from a game? Imagine trying to persuade someone to have a go - what should they? What have you and your...

My point entirely! We use our own Tales of Derring -Do rules for skirmishes and existing commercial rules sets for larger games, specifically Black Powder and Hail Ceasar, where they they give us good games. We don't even change the measurements, just keep the footprint of units roughly...
Thanks Plastic General. I have responded to your PM.
Do you have a website I can take a look at? We all tend to 'invent our own systems', which is why there is no internationally recognised 'governing body' or set of rules for the hobby! I am not sure if it is a sign of independent spirit or...
Gosh, what a reticent bunch the 54mm Wargamers are proving to be! No one wants to tell their story - amazing. How are we going to keep the hobby going if we don't shout about it, chaps?
Thanks Brad, I have already done so, and have some material from him. I met him at Historicon a few years ago when he was just starting out. He's a nice guy and produces great figures - a real asset to the 54mm hobby.
Gentlemen
This is an invite to send me your stories and anecdotes about wargaming with 54mm metal, plastic, resin, wood, paper figures, along with some photos, to appear in the next feature article in my 54mm Wargaming series in Toy Soldier Collector.
It can be about your figures, armies...

Splendid stuff Scott, great fun feel to unpainted figures used en mass. We did something similar, refighting Zacatecas, with much the same AIP figure but painted.
I saw a comment that the Weston Mexican Bandits are too big to use with AIP. It is a fair point that they are larger but we used...
Sheer genius!
A while back we played a game based on just such an idea. Made a V3 from a lava lamp, transporter from a modern US car transporter, UFO etc from 'Lego-lookalike' kits...but took it a stage further and had The Doctor and some Daleks involved too. I must remember to take my tablets...
1) They are blown-up 28mm transfers, then touched up by hand, and they are master-painter Lucky Pete Reynold's handiwork.
2) Arms are usually plastic, from other figures and hard plastic kits (Airfix Multipose etc). Weapons from plastic ditto and metal ones are a mix of what we have obtained...

Thank you. Fire away - I am always happy, nay keen, to share ideas with fellow modellers and especially about conversions. I confess to never really being happy using figures 'staright out the box' and painting them. I get much more fun from hacking the poor little things about - must be...
Thanks.
The answer is not to stop trying BDHY. We have found that with buildings the number of layers of paint and wash are the secret - the more the better. Even if one layer appears to hide the one it is going over it is the 'depth' of finish which seems to make the building really work...
Thanks for the kind words, TGK.
That was the idea, to sort of 'extra' them up. It was great fun to do, made me think I should do some Federales the same way from the same figures with new headgear?
I think I may have said that in their first fight they did very badly, getting caught trying a...
Looks like a fun game, Mike.
I'm a long time 54mm gamer and member of the Skirmish Wargames group, which specialises in 54mm games. We are keen Imperialists too and play most Colonial periods including the Grim. But the last game was a Sudan one, mostly AIP figures. Some photos at...
