I was actually in Destin playing in a tennis tournament that week and the B-25's came over the courts several times during the couple of days I was playing. I didn't realize Col. Cole was at Eglin for this occasion. When I saw the bomber coming towards us as we were playing, I told my doubles partner "hey, here comes a WWII B-25" and he said "Are you sure that's not a B-24?" and I said "positive, a B-25 only has two engines whereas a B-24 has four". I got all excited and was telling him (and our opponents during the changeover) about the Doolittle raid and all. I think our opponents might have thought I was a little stange for commenting to them about this during a highly competitive tennis tournament match. {eek3}

I'm planning on being in San Antone for the show and looking forward to meeting Col. Cole along with seeing fellow collectors and Andy again.

Duke, looking forward to seeing you there. Nothing like San Antonio, A group of WWII fans and a Growing Texas Toy Soldier Show, along with Col. Cole and Andy .......^&grin

Likewise PA, looking forward to meeting you and other collectors as well. Following up on the Florida B-25/Col. Cole story... it was interesting that they must have had two B-25's there. The first one I saw fly over was in green with early war Doolittle raid markings (early star with red dot in center), and there was also a silver one too. I'll have to ask Col. Cole which one he was piloting the other day. After reading the story posted, amazing that he took over the controls and even landed the plane at 97! The B-25 overhead may have been a bother to some of the other tennis competitors playing in the tournament, but to me was an inspiration (although I didn't know he was there) to see and hear a B-25 in the air. It gave me chills.

Flying a B-25 at the age of 97 = STUD pure and simple.
