Very clever of Andy to conduct a Poll using a Pole as camo. ^&grin

But the Battle of Jutland? The ship models would be over 20 ft. long {sm2}

Terry

In our defence all we said was that we would like to do a Battle of Jutland. We were not actually seriously requesting them in 1/30th!

You know, if you pick the right British battlecruiser to model, you would only have to recreate a small section of the bow or stern.:wink2: -- Al

That took me a minute to 'get' but it was worth the wait. Well done!

I often hear, as my friend Jason succinctly summarized, that this Forum represents only a small group of collectors and does not represent all the collectors. Although this may be true, we have no real way of knowing that and I often find that those who say it doesn't are those whose economic interests would be affected by saying it does. In other words, they attempt to paint the opinion of the Forum as a minority because to admit that it doesn't wouldn't be in their interest to do so. It's a bit of a conflict of interest, to say the least.

True - but the reverse is equally true. To argue that it does represent the majority can appear to legitimize one's personal preference. It is, as you say, difficult to be certain, but if we look at the regular contributers to TF discussion, we are actually even a minority in terms of Treefrog membership. The real conflict of interest stems from our collecting preferences. We want things made that interest us and that we can afford.

If you look at polls they don't do it with millions of people.TV does it with only 2-3000 with their Neilson ratings.We have a cross section of who collects here.Older white males.^&grin.JJD,TGM,FL,KC,the Germans may dominate the WWII figure lines but the French have them beat in WWI.Let's not forget the ONWTC they had nice figures and tanks too.{bravo}}

Jack,

I'm not arguing the reverse and my point was not so much at the specific requests listed by Andy but the general comment that this Forum doesn't represent the collecting community. First, the membership is not monolithic but in my view represents a cross sample. Secondly, where is the empirical evidence, one way or the other. Companies normally conduct sophisticated studies regarding customer preferences. I don't see that in this industry.

Brad

WWI is hot now and I look forward to many more exciting releases.
JJD just released a French Schneider tank which was used extensively in the 1917 campaigns and I believe a Renault will be forthcoming.
I do agree with Brad that JJD sets the standard for WWI in terms of variety and consistent releases.
JJD's strategy to concentrate on support troops and vehicles is welcome and I'm sure action figures will follow.
Between JJD, WB, FL and K&C there are plenty of choices.

It does seem that the WW1 French tide is running high at this time. It is, I think, about time and actually quite natural. Very little French stuff has ever been done outside of the Napoleonic period. It seems the right time to cover the Allies biggest contributor in terms of numbers, frontage covered, and casualties (I'm talking Westfront here). Besides, the French have a sense of style the other nations lacked. Who but the French would go into a modern war dressed in dark blue and red, then modernize to a total gray/blue uniform? That horizon blue adds a desperately needed bit of color/dash to what was a very earth-colored war (excepting the vibrant colors of the airwar). All the makers are producing (or will be) outstanding French related items. JJD is the pace-setter for the period in question but all the entrants have their best feet forward in this area. ONWTC made some really good stuff and were first in. It is too bad they went OOB as their figures and tanks were first rate. They are a true 1/32 and are thus a little smaller than the other makers, but I have found they seem to display just fine alongside the JJD and TGM figures. I look forward to the many additions we will be seeing, from all the makers. It can only get better, if the pictures from JJD, KC, TGM, and FL are any indication. -- Al

Just to clarify, I draw my conclusion regarding the amount of collectors and their representation of the hobby on the forum from my attendance at the Westcoaster, Texas Toy soldier show, shopping at Sierra and Kings X. I am frankly amazed at how many collectors I meet at these places that have never heard of the forum and have no interest in being part of it. I would guess that for every one that I do find on the forum there are six who are not members.

I do agree that the forum does represent a sampling of the diverse interests of the hobby and one can extrapolate on interest/sales potential from there but there is no way that it is the only source for that.

All this talk about WW1 stuff, does any one remember Frontline, about 5 years ago did about 25 WW1 Germans. They were excellent. For 2 years at OTSN they busted my budget as I was not expecting them and just had to buy them. They fit perfectly with ONTC & Britains.
Don,t want to get in a scale controversy again but last night I concluded in regards to WW1 Gunn & K&C match, ONTC, Frontline & Britains match, but JJ are right in between. Conclusion they must be displayed in 3 seperate groupings. I,m hopeing FL will fit with the Britains-ONTC group. I certainly don,t want a 4th.

Hi Guys, hi “Old Dragon”,

Those Napoleonic Polish Lancers are beautiful as are the 1939 Polish Cavalry…But guys – it’s impossible to do everything for everyone. No company anywhere can do it all – I wish we could…but we all do what we can.

Best wishes and happy collecting.

Well ... at least you agree that they are beautiful. Hopefully someday K&C could get around to it.

Andy ,

I thought that was the whole idea behind having a FOB line !?! To represent the unrepresented WW2 nations ?
