“RUMOURS…REBUTTALS…AND REFERRALS” - A Post from Andy Neilson

Here is a message from Andy Neilson.

********

Dear One and All,

“RUMOURS…REBUTTALS…AND REFERRALS”

Just as I was sitting down to my early morning bowl of raisin bran (with extra fibre and fruit) I almost choked on a fibre… ”Rumour on the street is K&C are going to produce a new landing craft and… a repainted ‘88! ”

1) Sorry to disappoint you lads but the rumour did not come from any street I live on. Definitely no plans exist to do either. To be honest there’s much too much other stuff already in the pipe line PLUS a queue (English for a “line”) a mile long of other items I (and most of you) want K&C to produce before these two particular items reappear.

2) Warbuff 26’s comparison between the price of SP14 (Berlin Tenement) and Frontline’s proposed Normandy Village is a fair one. While he’s at it why doesn’t he compare the price of Frontline’s tanks (all four of them) with K&C’s. He’ll also find them cheaper than ours Mmmmm.

What does Mmmmm mean,

Answers on a postcard to….

3) Referrals Last night while still digesting my raisin bran and Warbuff 26’s perceptive comments I decided to look up “BILL MILLIN” on the web. Bill Millin was Lord Lovat’s bagpiper on D. Day and also played himself in “The Longest Day”.

Imagine to my surprise a wealth of information and sites referring to this famous Scotsman. Check out the following : -

A) NPR Scotland’s Bill Millin

B) World War Two In The Highlands. This is a fantastic site funded by British Telecom and the Children of an Inverness Primary School in Scotland – really interesting.

C) BBC NEWS / Scotland

4) Point of Interest : When K&C did our model of Bill Millin, of course, I watched “The Longest Day” again. In the movie Bill is wearing normal British Army Battledress and Trousers. And that’s how we produced him. It seems in actual fact Bill did indeed wear Battledress above the waist but a KILT below. When the time comes to “redesign” this popular figure I promise to redo Bill in his kilt!

Best wishes and… happy collecting to the Band of Brothers!

Andy

Rumors? Oh, my little o' thread. Well at least the imagination ran there for day. Now, Andy didn't dis-spell the book rumor. Hmmmm, I can just imagine......

You shouldn't be blamed for the rumor, that dealer's website you pointed me to started the rumor. However, I to have high hopes about the book reference not being denied. At this point, I am ready to pull out my bad scottish accent, ghost write the **** book, sign Andy's name to it, ship it off to him in Hong Kong with my best wishes, and call it a day.

Dear Jazzeum,

Can you please spell my name correctly ... it's Scottish "NEILSON" not Scandinavian "NEILSEN". You must be getting me confused with a very tall Viking -- people often do.

love and kisses,
Andy C. Neilson

Andy...I would not disgrace a K&C figure or tank by sitting a Frontline tank next to it. I have only KC figures...remember...you were there at the OTSN show when I bought my one and only non-kc figure...Britains Admiral Nimitz...cause you didnt make one!

I was only saying I liked the building a little more when it was around the $89 mark becuase I planned on getting 3 of them. But I know shipping etc changed all of that. If they can do a 24x24 village with 3 building for under $200....what do they know that we dont?

Andy, since you squashed those rumours on the 88 and Landing Craft do you care to comment on these?Via a secretly planted micro phone in your office(remember that Japanese delivery guy last week,or was he???) I heard that K&C has decided to re-release the pet rock in both a Battle of the Bulge Winter paint scheme and a limited edition(only 43,get your order in quick) Ambush paint scheme. :D
Love what you do.Keep it up...

Hey Fullyautomatic, here's a dollar for accordion lessons (a little reference to the movie "My Favorite Year" . . . anybody get it).

In the movie, the main character (modeled after Neil Simon) is a young writer on Sid Caeser's show of shows. When asked if there are funny and unfunny people, he responds "Yes, on the funny side is the Marx Brothers, except Zeppo, the Ritz Brothers, no exceptions, and Woody Woodpecker. On the not funny side is anyone who ever played the accordion professionally." When the person asking tries to tell a joke but totally screws it up, he offers her a dollar. She asks what the dollar is for, and he replies "Accordion lessons."

Yes, it's true Zeppo was not funny. But Groucho one of my all time favorites. I actually have a statue of him. That's how much I love him. Duck Soup, Horse Feathers, A Day At the Races, all classics. Groucho is the greatest. All three of them still crack me up. Remember the password scene when Chico is trying to get into the speakeasy. It just cracks me up to think about it. :D :D

My favorite flavor of ice cream will always be Tootsie fuitsie. You know, Andy did a Charlie Chaplin, but he never did a set of the Marx Brothers. Wouldn't it be cool if he did a U.S.O. set with a figure that sort of (closely) resembles Bob Hope?

Louis, thanks for the explanation and I'd rather not play the accordian but I'll collect my dollar at OTSN.I'm sorry you didn't find my joke funny and thats all it was,a joke. Not a dig at Andy just some humor to break the day.
Rumours are always good to get us pumped up for new releases and as collectors its always better when the rumours come true but its also a disappointment in a sense if they don't.We all wish for alot of things but unfortunately there's only one Andy Neilson and he own's the company so he gets to make the decisions. He's in a sense the King and we are loyal subjects.
Maybe I'll get Warbuff to do a diorama for my own WWII Pet Rock repaint.Watch for it on ebay...someone will buy it,I'm sure, especially if its listed as limited or special.. :D

I hope you realize I was joking too. Sadly, neither of us is likely to make it in standup, but at least we both try! I'll have that dollar for you in Chicago. Maybe you can buy a K&C Panther turret with it (a little Valley Forge Show reference for Brad).

No problem, rolls off me like rain. You know a turret could actually be made into a good diorama.Especially after seeing some of WarBuff's stuff and Alex's repaints.I've seen a few pictures of both the Russians and Germans doing this in some of my WWII books. If you ever play computer games one of my favourites,Close Combat has the availability of choosing just that option.Kind of like a bunker.
Now thats what I would really like to see next,a new Normandy shoreline bunker.

That turret was one of the best deals I ever did, relatively speaking. Bought it for $1 and sold it for $41. I was very happy.
