1/30 foam building (1 Viewer)

I just started my first foam building and its not that easy to cut the stuff straight. What do you use to get the nice straight and rounded cuts you get Alex? Also how do you go about cutting out your windows? I know they sell some kind of foam cutter but I don,t know munch about it, is that what you use and if so where did you get it and how munch was it??? Any way heres what I,ve got so far. Its not finished yet but you can get a good idea of the finished product. I,m not sure what i,m going to do for the windows yet anybody have any good ideas? I was going to add shutters also and I have to finnish the other side of the roof wich I made for a craft store wicker type broom that I pulled apart. The stones on the bottom and on the chimney I carved into the foam with a pencil. I think i,ll also add a shack onto the other side of the house oppsite the chimney. I also added a hard wood floor on the inside. All the wood trim and floor were made from strip balsa wood from a craft store.

Heres a picture of the hard wood floor. I,m going to add the inside of the chimney also and maybe a bed and some furniture. I still need to repaint the inside. And do the finish around the windows.

Another look at the chimney. This was carved from a piece of thick blue foam and the stones were carved in with a pencil.

Wow! That is cool. I would just weather it a bit but its very impressive. I use both hobby knife and foam cutter. I used the hobby knife for the windows. I agree that sometimes its a little difficult to cut. I think it depends on the direction that you cut. I have the foam cutter from http://www.bigcityhobbies.com/ . The only thing is you cut slower than you would with a hobby knife but I haven't compared it to any others.

I think you did a terrific job, it certainly shows a lot of creativity and talent.

If I really tried hard I think like most of us I could make a piece of foam look

like a .........piece of foam!

The stone work you did on the base of the house and the chimney is very

nice. I could probably do that if I had say 100 years or so.

Nice job, I would enjoy seeing more photos when you are done.

Fishead,

We will soon have to call you "Foamhead." My reactions parallel those of John (njja). I think you have made an outstanding beginning and I hope you will post more photos when you complete the job. I suspect I could never make foam look like anything but destroyed foam! At least, if destroyed foam were my goal, I could probably achieve it. Great work!

Warm regards,

Pat

Alex:

Now those are some serious looking tools. Of course the only way they would

help me would be if they were computer guided like the guys use on "Orange

County Choppers"

I also didn,t get a chance to ask you how you liked the show. I didn,t think it was all that great this year other than george from minute man getting me for 6 of the kcs K&C cavalry(I must have made his day:p ). A few of the smaller dealers that were there in years past with great deals didn,t show this year. But I did find enough stuff to put a big dent in the wallet!:p

Tim, that was my first toy soldier show so I can't comment on the number of dealers there, but my wife and I enjoyed it, wish I had more time and money to spend, what little I had of each I spent with George.:D I didn't find the AK-24 I was looking for, but with NMA coming out with an Afrika Korp armour car, I don't really care anymore, sorry Andy, you can't have ALL my money!;)

Fishead, That certainly is a fine creation and entirely suitable for the Emporer for overnite lodging! Great work!
