For me King & Country is really top of the line, especially concerning detail and real expression on faces. But I also like Britains, especially Big Red One sets ( I am collecting WWII ), and Conte or Old Northwest ( these ones, till now I only saw on internet photos ). Now, K&C doesn´t look very compatible with the others, and Mr. John Gittins ( JG MINIATURES ) tells me his bunkers do not take K&C soldiers inside. This despite the fact that all are so called 1/32 scale articles. It does get a little bit confusing, I think ( of course I might be wrong). Should one stick to K&C, to the other ones, or to all?

Best regards from Portugal,
Paulo

Hard to mix & match

First off welcome Paulo. When I first started collecting I bought some Britian's WWII fig's,the Long Tom and then the first German tank that was released. When I finally made my first K&C purchase I was done with Britains. There was just so much difference in size and quality, putting them side by side was like they say, mixing apples with oranges. Not meant to offend the Britian collector's out there but everyone makes choices and collects for various reasons. My choice is K&C.I still have my Britian's sets and will probably sell them in the future to help purchase up and coming K&C sets.
Thats just my two cents.

I can't disagree with anything Fullyautomatic has said. I started buying Britain's (just a couple sets) last year and loved them but when I saw K & C (and it was quite by accident that I stumbled onto them), it was love at first sight. There's just no comparison in my mind. K & C is head and shoulders above anything else. I haven't seen any ONTC in person but the photos I've seen both online and in magazines doesn't make me think it's that great.

The poses and the faces don't seem realistic. One thing Andy does (and he has emphasized this) is put them in realistic poses. They look as real soldiers would look like. I don't see this with ONTC. The facial poses are very strange IMHO.

Now there is two Britains set that I have an like and that's the paratroopers. I think those are great and wouldn't part with them.

King & Country size

Hi Paulo, King & Country is not considered to be 1/32 scale. The "industry standard" for toy soldiers is 54mm and King & Country is about 60mm and stouter or "chunkier" (hence the suggestion from Stu Hessney editor of Toy Soldier and Model Figure Magazine to dub them "chunkies"). David Cowe of Imperial Productions says his company produces figures that are precisely 54mm scale so these are good figures to compare to when trying to ascertain the size of a particular figure. Hope this helps!

The old problem 54mm or 60mm, what about 1/32 or 1/35, size does matter. In my opinion 54mm too 60mm since all dimensions are increased look like men compared to boys not 6 foot 4 inch guys to 5 foot 7 inch ones. I like making bases for my figures and size is an issue with me. So if I am going to create a diorama I will not mix 54mm with 60mm any more than I would mix 1/32 with 1/35. As I think Red Skelton used to say “it just don’t look right to me”.
Hope I got the quote right would hate to divulge my age and get it wrong.

So, bottom line, if I start with K&C 60mm WWII figures that’s all that will be in that diorama. I have purchased K&C and Britain figures in the American Revolution series and the seem to match just fine and all are close to 54mnm so I will mix them, but I will not mix purchased K&C and Britain figures in the WWII series. Toot

There's always a question about "54mm" versus "1/32nd scale" versus "K&C scale". Everybody seems to have their own definition of "scale". I collect and display several brands of toy soldiers, my general theme is US WW2. The Airfix soft plastic, the Airfix Multipose, 21C figures, Matchbox soft plastic, ESCI soft plastic, the 1970-ish Monogram tanks and many metal figures such as Imrie-Risely appear to be "true" 1/32nd scale (38" = 1 foot). Many Marx GI figures and FoV are slightly larger, but still usable together. Old Northwest Trading Co., Britains, and Conte are larger still. King and Country are the biggest, reportedly because Andy likes to use the larger scale to add detail to the figures.

Every one seems to have their own definitition of "scale", but it all seems to work out in the end.

I agree the K/C are the nicest troops available these days for the $$$, I still don't collect them. I have a few French Napoleonics, and I'll probably pick up the WW2 Russian lady traffic signal gal, they are not very compatible with anything else. You have to rely on K/C for everything.I never count on that happening.
I enjoy the 1/32 scale since there are so many makers of whatever you want, if one maker doesnt have what you need another probably will, or you can find a kit.I realize many just collect and are not kit bashers and painters but if you are theres more to do than one can keep up with.Again, A Conte figure will not be the same as a Shenandoah for example , they are close. People vary in size. Equipment and vehicle types do not. Thats where I draw the line. One makers Sherman Tank might be true 1/32, anothers 1/35 and then you really can tell the differance.
FUBAR
