Hi all,

I have been amazed recently by some dioramas, structures, designs etc.. by alot of 1:35 modelers on the First Legion facebook web page, (which has a open door invitation to all collectors, builders, painters) so even though First Legion is a 1:30 scale for the most part it seems to have alot of following in the 1:35 world, back to the dios I have seen some buildings and hand crafted sets that are just unreal!!! from desk top funiture to huge Stalingrad ruins and everything in between, I'm just very curious to know why there are so many talanted 1:35 modelers but very few 1:30/ 1:32 modelers??....Sammy

I imagine it is because of the wider popularity of 1/35 scale kit models and figures. These kits are cheaper than the ready formed and painted 1/30 / 1/32 figures and vehicles etc.

So the 1/35 are more for people who want to spend less and have the time to build and paint everything themselves.

So it's two different markets, and 1/35 is the larger by a good margin even if there is somewhat of an overlap.

Yes the modeling hobby is overwhelming 1/35 products.Don't forget that FL puts their WWII line out in unpainted 1/35 also for the modelers.

Sammy...

Simply there is no market in 1/30th or 1/32 kits. If there were I would not be buying the releases from this hobby. There are big scales like 1/24th and 1/16th but, releases are few and far between.

1/35th is still huge and, has everything people want all the detail at a great prices and, a massive amount of accessories.

There is just not the same in the other scales mentioned so, there is little interest. FL have and I know from my model friends kind of hit a cord with the modellers they can use the pre released built sets because of their paint style with diorama builders who can focus more on building scenes spend more of their time painting tanks and figures. There also comments on the smaller size of figures which, is not a knock just what is said and, I know a number of model makers who now use them with their Kit AFV's

As has been mentioned FL also release their sets in 35th scale unpainted which, is also an attraction to modellers in this scale. so, they are casting their net into two hobbies one small and the other huge and, increasing again in popularity. well, that's what my friend who owns a model store tells me by his sales. Its also stated in many of the mainstream model mags that the hobby is seeing a resurgence.

Everyone has hit it on the nose. 1/35 is well-established in the scale modeling world. 1/30 is a very new development, originating in the toy solder part of the hobby. It would be an off-scale, in scale modeling.

There is a ton of very good scale modeling out there, by the way, with a number of popular forums, covering a range of subjects, from military and historical to science fiction and fantasy, to automotive and ships. I recommend pouring yourself your favorite beverage and having a browse!

Prost!
