I was looking to get some diorama accessories...
Does anyone know if 1/48 dollhouse stuff would look completely absurd with toy soldiers (say 1/30 or so). Obviously it is the wrong scale, but can it pass????

Zach, I have just started using 1/2 scale or 1:24 building components (doors, Windows, roofing material, wallpapers, staircase etc) and they work quite well, but figures, bottles, potted plants and such are a bit too challenging. I'm thinking that 1/48 would be way out on the small side. Building with foam card and dolls house components has a lot of possibilities and I recommend it for enjoyment. Bob

What type of stuff are you looking for Zach ? I think 1:35 would be a better option though.

Are you looking for a dollhouse and accessories. There's a place in Madison (near here) that makes some outstanding items.

I am thinking of making diorama "rooms" just to take pictures of individual figures rather than just plain 2d backdrops of rooms

Sort of like the Collectors Showcase Hitlers office - things like that

Yes, that opens the potential for the literal "staged" indoor diorama. Railway lighting can add some attractive results also, and is economical for use in such projects. The lit fire in the fireplace is one of many uses, and dolls house lighting can provide lit candles and chandelier fittings. For furniture, Hobbylinc is useful, and I am going to try Phoenix Miniatures for piano and lounge items. Happy hunting and please post any interesting sources.

Hi Zach,
Might I suggest Marx Playset plastic house and office accessories...Cheap and cheerful!
Every time I meet up with Matt of Hobby Bunker in Chicago or San Antonio at the shows there I pick up a bundle for Gordon and his dios...He paints them, adds lots of other little details and hey presto...Magic!
1:48 scale in my opinion is too, too small for the kind of figures we both like...even 1:35 can be problematic...but better. "G" and me still try to find dolls house stores wherever we go and always find something...Paris has a couple of great ones and San Antonio also has a very good one opposite Laura's office (Laura is my ex wife and co founder and business partner in King & Country.)
Hope this helps and best wishes, Andy.

An object in 1/48 will be too small to fit with a 1/30 figure, generally speaking. There may be some objects that won't look too bad, but a piece of furniture in 1/48 might tend to look like a piece made for a child, in a diorama in 1/30.

If I remember correctly, 1/48 is 40mm as a size, or O gauge, by some manufacturers' measure (O gauge is 1/43 in some cases).

I agree that going up a scale to 1/24 or 1/25 might work better. You can find items in the car model ranges by makers like Revell, AMT, Tamiya and Fujimi, that can be used for other dioramas--tools, etc.

Hope that helps!

Prost!
Brad

Zach, take a look at some of UK Reb/Bob's indoor ACW scenes on the diodrama thread. His interior HQ views use dollhouse accessories for props and they are perfect. DOn't know what scale he uses but probably close to 1:32, so maybe 1:35. 1:48 probably too small. Chris
