In theaters 18 October 2013. Looks good. At least a welcome departure from vampires.

"Based on an incredible true story of one man's fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender), as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon's chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Pitt) will forever alter his life."

Thanks for the link. This will be interesting to see. I have seen his memoirs cited in works on slavery.

Watched the film last night with my wife. I thought the movie was fantastic! I recommend it. We were about 3/4 of the way through the movie when my wife got up and went to do something else. She said the violence was just too much for her to take. Parts of it are pretty brutal. I can see why it won movie of the year. Excellent production. Great acting by the entire cast.
