Was just wondering if any Treefrogers were going to the reenactment of Manassas this coming weekend? Spectator or Participant?

I am planning on going both days as a spectator. It is suppose to be a big event.

Ken

I would love to but I am no fan of heat stroke. Temps projected near 100 degrees this coming weekend. Think I will read about it instead.:wink2: -- Al

We did it back in 1986. VERY HOT! My wife is a good sport and portrayed a Vivandiere.

I'll wait for the fotos this time.

I was going to attend but can't get off from work now. I was at the 1961 reenactment, okay...as a child! It was very hot then as well. Having been to the 100th anniversary I really wanted to be there this yr. Best wishes on your participation Captain! Chris

Hi Chris. I made the 100th anniversary of the Antietam/Sharpsburg reenactment ( as a nine year old) and I remember it being very hot also. I am now too old for the heat. A/C is the primary rule of survival now.^&grin -- Al

The last Manassas I did was the 140th and there were more spectators falling out from the heat than there were reenactors. That time the heat index was 125 and it was miserable. It is always hotter than the hinges of hades at that event. Be sure and get there early if your going, the battles are at 9:30 A.M. each day.

Hot???? Hot????? You Northerners.........think you know hot...........^&grin

Come on down to southeast Texas in July and we will show you hot w/ 100% humidity :p

Just kidding I would love to be there but can not make it :)

Well Al, once again our paths may have crossed! I was at that reenactment as well, practically same age too! My father was a social studies teacher and the Civil War was his passion, which he passed on to me (it was his copy of Lee's Lieutenants I read in middle school). So we went to reenactments, Gettysburg, etc. I was in awe of those reenactors and always wanted to do that when I got older. I even started to collect some equipment, but better sense made me realize I didn't really want to wear a wool uniform during summer months. :rolleyes2:

On a related subject I've been wondering if there will be special commorative events for the 200 yr anniversary of the Battle of Baltimore. Steamed crabs and the birth of the Star Bangled Banner should be quite a combination. Chris

Sorry for all the pics, just a little state pride :)

Hey Ruggles, great shots of that beautiful old gal, USS Texas. She looks fantastic. Love the old dreadnought lines. Now, as to Texas temperatures, no thank you. DC's humidity is quite sufficient for me. I won't go back outside until October, anyway.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Heck, we could have been sitting next to each other.{sm3} I still remember the Confederate soldier yelling, in the middle of the battle, that he had finally "got me some shoes" when he looted a Union "casualty". As for the Battle of Baltimore, you needn't wait for that event to enjoy our fine Maryland crabs, washed down with Natty Bo.^&grin{eek3}:wink2: -- Al

Yes, but for some rediculous reason half the artillery fights one day and the other half the next. I Dont yet know what day we take the field.

Be sure to take care Captain an keep cool while at the event and have a great time.....The Lt.

She is a beaut for sure. Love to crawl around inside of her and sit on the AA guns on deck, they still swivel and turn with the crank handles as you sit on them. Nothing like sitting on them and cranking away as you gun down imaginary enemy planes :)

Well Richard Walker of W. Britain has left Iowa and is on his way. He will be set up as a vendor at the event and then visiting some of our accounts while he is out East. If you are planning on going to Manassas look him up.
I am here at the bench this time around... but I am surrounded by new Civil War sculpts! There should be a nice offering in the next W. Britain catalog.
