1776- David McCullough (1 Viewer)

I've been reading through the posts in this thread and thought I would add something. I believe part of the original question was asking for some other good books on the AWI in addition to 1776 by McCullough. I personally can attest to books by John Ferling. He is a professor emeritus at the University of W Georgia and he has a real passion for the Rev war. He has written a book called A Leap in the Dark (2003) that is a great read on the AWI. He also has authored a book called Setting the World Ablaze: the Life of Washington, Adams & Jefferson (2002), which is another favorite of mine. This book doesn't go too deep into the intracacies of the war, but it does a good job of the movement behind the war and what lead up to it.

I highly recommend Mr. Ferling's books and I hope this will help shed more light on your search for some good AWI books.

John Ferking has just released a new book, Almost a Miracle: Tha American Victory in the War of Independence. His earlier book, A Leap in the Dark, tell the political side of the war while his new book tells the miliatry side of it.

I haven't had a chance to read it yet, however it looks interesting.

Thanks for the info King's Man!!! I will definitely check out his latest book.

Everyone,

I will just say quickly that I know John professionally, and I have always been blown away by his generosity of spirit. In a field where senior faculty are often cold and standoffish, he is most encouraging and friendly. Naturally, his books are quite excellent as well. Now, if only I could convince UWGA to hire another Early American historian to fill the gap since his retirement...

Cheers mates,

Cole

That's correct my friend. That was my intention and we have had a great discussion since then. My sincerest thanks to everyone for their insights and recommendations.

Thanks for the link- it sounds like something I will pick up as well- though the critics reviews were somewhat mixed.
