I found this Sears Wish book Ad last Night and thought I would share.
In 1970 I was 10 years old and wanted it desperately . Reminds me of the Movie with the kid and the Red rider BB gun.
It was and remains the favorite gift ever.Fond memory of getting up Christmas morning way before dawn and this Huge Boxed playset from Germany was waiting in front of the lit Christmas tree and the radio was still on low playing Choir songs. I had it built before Light and was happily playing with the Swoppet Knights when my Father came out to light a fire and make coffee, looked at me, shook his head and staggering back to bed.king_arthurs_castle_playset.jpg
My Mom indulged my toy soldier and creative traits.Dad, not so much. The great Depression forced him to work at a young age, no toys .
For some reason, this has always been my all time favorite Family /toy soldier moment and finding this ad brought it all back for a few moments.

I don't think there's anything I wanted more in the whole world than an army playset from the Sears Wishbook. I'd spend hours looking at all the toys in the catalog. The toys I have now is nothing compared to the dreams of getting something from the Sears catalog.

I always waited for the Sears catalog. I had the King Arthurs Castle it was a joint present from Santa Claus for me and my brother. Unfortunately it is long gone my parents gave to the kids next door when we moved along with all of our Marx sets.

I loved getting that sears catalog and seeing all the toy soldier sets in there and dreaming about getting them all. I wonder if there is a web site that would still have pics of all those old sears playset adds??? Those swopit knights bring back memories also, I had those as a kid and still have most of them although many of the parts are missing.
I wanted the Timpo set of knights but my dad got me these instead.

My Dad has a couple books which have full colour reproductions of most of the Sears Christmas stuff. I looked at those for hours when I was younger, and always got frusterated with my parents when they told me that it was impossiblee to get any of the items, as they had not been made for thirty years{sm4}^&grin!

Tim, It's amazing to me you still have those Knights after so many years. All my toys got thrown out, plowed under or fell victim to Crossman powermaster pellet rifles. We won't talk about aeresol flamethrowers. When I started collecting in the early 90's it was all plastic knights I had as a kid.
I hunted for years, found lots of Deetail, finally some Timpo Crusaders { I had 2-3 foot, no mounted} and one day a Danner boot box FULL of Britain's Swoppet Knights, over 60 mounted and foot, all complete, for $40.00.Even found another King Arthurs castle.
But I never did find those weird Knights that came in a huge window box with the Castle set.
I finally found a few and discovered they were Cherila figures.
I sold off my plastic collection and turned it into metal Britains and Frontline.
They were old, cool, but valuable, and started to get that decaying crayon smell. I miss the Timpo once in a while!

Like all of you, I also loved the Sears catalogs. Used to have some of the various knights sets, though I didn't have the one being discussed. I had many of the fine Timpo knights, both foot and mounted, and have always considered the Timpo figures to be my favorites. Although the knights are all long gone, I actually still have several dozen ACW figures, mounted and foot. They came pre-painted. I have a few still with the original paint, but most have been repainted as their many battles stripped the original paint, which was of a matte finish that flaked real easily. Thanks for the memories.:smile2: -- Al

That is sweet. I remember seeing that ad when I was a kid also. I never had one though. The Sears Wishbook always had the greatest sets.
