1st Foot Guards 1755 (1 Viewer)

Britains is releasing marching poses of the 44th Regiment of Foot and the Provincial Virginia Regiment. My question, would it be o.k. to show a contingent of both marching out, maybe to the Monongahela, in front of the 1st Foot Guards Grenadiers, Drums and Fifies on parade?
I might do it anyway for a colorful display but what about the possibility of being historical correct?
Thanks for any info.

Hi Konrad

From what I have read the 1st Foot was not in America until 1757, 2 years after the Battle of Monongahela. For the different regiments see:

http://www.fifedrum.org/crfd/BD_1.htm
and http://www.1stroyals.org/

So you would need a later scenario where the 3 groups might have been together. It also depends on what fort you are representing too.

Randy

Thanks Randy,
the Monongahela was just an example, as both the 44th Foot and the Viginia Regiment were there.
What I wanted to know, if at any point these three different troops (1st Foot Guards, 44th and Virginia) could have been at one spot together.
My display base will be just a parade ground or courtyard with some barracks around, so that could be in various Forts or even in some town.
Thanks also for the link.
Talk to you later.

Konrad,

I would like to see the photo's of them all together anyway :)

Will do, Jeff,
photos of an updated display will come up after the new releases are available.
Looking forward to it.

I have a suggestion. Leave out the Virginia Provincials. The 1st Foot, 42nd Regt. and 44th Foot were all at the surrender of Montreal in 1760. WB has done all 3 and this would make a great ceremonial scene.

Randy,
I very much appreciate your idea, thank you very much.
After browsing around a little bit I found out that the 15th Regiment of Foot was also present at that event.
So here goes.
The growing display will show British Forces celebrating the Surrender of Montreal.
The 1st Foot Guards at attention in the background along with their Drum and Fife Corps.
In front of them, marching by, the 44th Foot Grenadiers and the 15th Regiment.
On the side looking on, a small group of 2 or 3 of the 42nd Highlanders, as their pose doesn't really support a multiple display.
Now with all the fitting upcoming releases like the Mounted Officer, the Drum Major, the Ensign with King's Colors, the Officer of the 15th and maybe some Petticoats, ooh man what a splendid display that could be.
Ken, if you read this, please consider a marching Officer for the 44th Regt. in the future.
As of the Provincial Virginia Regt., sorry guys, you will have to get your own display.

You have definitely got a plan there. You are right the 42nd Highlanders will make good sentries. I think a triumphal ceremony will be spectacular. It will be fun to watch this grow and I look forward to seeing pictures as it develops. What an exciting display for your new space:)

Randy

Konrad,

I wanted to weigh in here as well and say that your diorama looks fabulous! Randy just got me started on the Classic FIW. I enjoy seeing how others are displaying this series as I seek ideas on what to do with this new found collection.

Good job and I can't wait to see more.

Mark

Hi Mark,
thanks for your comment and I am very pleased to see you joining the FIW club here. Looking forward to staying in touch here.

I think Randy's professional pictures on the F/I war really helped the recruitment of collecter's for this fine line of figures. Thanks Randy. John

Hi There! I considered this in the choice of units when these were designed. You should be able to intermix these to represent different units...remember that the 15th, 28th, 44th and the 46th all served in North America in this period and all had yellow facings. The plan is to offer a marching Drummer, Fifer and an Ensign with a King's Colour with yellow facings. These can then be used with the existing 15th foot officer and OR, or the 44th Regt Foot Grenadier to represent different units. Although we may add a marching Grenadier officer with a mitre cap, remember that some officers of Grenadier companys elected to wear cocked hats.
The only details that would vary in this style figure might be the unique 'tree' lacing on the cuff of the 46th regimental coats and that the GR cypher may have been worked in a darker thread in some images of the 28th. The details on the embroidery of the caps may have varied from issue to issue, but probaly not the lacing patterns on the coats.
We hope to add additional poses for several of the regiments so larger displays can be built, but at the same time we wish to keep some interesting variety so the single figure collector will be satisfied!
All the Best!
Ken Osen

That sounds very good, Ken,
looking forward to any and all of the upcoming FIW figures.
Thanks for the info.
