Gentle Friends,

Beau Geste is one of my favorite rooms to visit at OTSN. Beau Geste is owned by Ana Donzino and her husband, Daniel. Two more gracious persons never lived. Ana, always with a smile on her face, is an incredibly talented painter while Daniel, who possesses much wit, is an outstanding sculptor. As you might imagine, they make a wonderful team.

When you enter their room at OTSN, you are quickly greeted warmly by its occupants, both living ones and miniature ones. The room has the feel of a fantasy world where remarkable things come to life. You see grand elephants, magnificent marching soldiers, remarkably colorful military bands, and figures in traditional fighting poses, all in a bright, glossy finish. The bright finish on the figures is matched only by the warmth extended to you by the Donzinos.

If you visit with Ana for any length of time, you soon discover that one of her passions is the 1903 Delhi Durbar. Ana regularly makes trips to the United Kingdom to research the Durbar and to find pictures on which to base her wonderful sets. Ana's and Daniel's attention to detail is unparalleled but by a few.

When I enter their room, I stand transfixed by the figures exhibited there. Unfortunately, I become so transfixed that I do not take many pictures of the room. Entirely too much of my time and too much of my money are spent in determining which figures I will take home.

I only have a few pictures of the Beau Geste room, but I hope the photos are enough to begin to provide an idea of the beautiful things to be discovered there. Found below are photos that communicate why this is one of my favorite rooms. I hope you enjoy them.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Gentle Friends,

The remaining photographs that I took in the Beau Geste Room are found below. Hopefully, you can see why I look forward to visiting this room so very much. I would caution you, however, should you enter the room, you are most likely to leave with some new figures under your arm. I know I did! ;)

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Thanks Pat for sharing your pictures and for setting the scene of OTSN for us.

Beau Geste certainly do have some beautifully painted and detailed figures. I am not sure but I can guess that first picture will be in your cabinet soon, if it isn't already :D

Looking forward to any more pictures you have and also to the goodies that you purchased.

I remember seeing the lauzun's lancer hussars and the gorgeous elephants at Chicago but I somehow missed the marvelous bicycle band... they remind me of the Italian 'futurists' who were drawing, painting, paper-architecturing in the early 19 century and when war broke out joined the brand new Italian motorbike brigade and raced off to war but were sadly machine-gunned down in a most futurist manner... or so my lecturer told it. Anyone familiar with the photo 'cyclists at bay' taken in 1898 with a group of British infantry standing with bayonets fixed with their bicycles as a barricade? would have liked to post it - but guess it’s under copyright - although the photographer must be long gone... it’s in 'The Victorian and Edwardian Army' 1975 & 1984commentaries by John Fabb. (anyone really interested message me and perhaps...). Guess it would make a fine toy soldier set and the pieces must already exist.
