All,
A list of places to eat from John from Texas. San Antonio native, Show attendee and overall wanker.
BBQ:
Yes, Rudys is awesome...BUT if I had a tour bus I would take all of y'all to the Salt Lick in Driftwood Texas. We always stop by there after soccer tourneys in Austin. www.saltlickbbq.com I will say that Rudy's peach cobbler is better!
Italian:
Peasanos...period end of story. Especially the special dish "shrimp peasanos"
Mesxican
NOTHING on the river walk!!!! I am taking someone or somebody from Hong Kong to Pappasitos, maybe Helen cause they got to try it! The filet mignon fajitas are too die for... the Seafood enchiladas will make you weep and the shrimp brochette will make you pass out. If you want to go let me know...oh did I forget the Dos Equis on draft and tres leches cake?
Bugers:
The Longhorn Cafe has the best burgers in the world. The "Big Juicy" is one of the most tasty burgers in history. You can even make it a Angus "Big Juicy". I will take any bets on this one. Its on Blanco and 1604.
CHICKEN FRIED STEAK
If you are man or woman enough you can join me for Sunday breakfast at Bud Jones for the best chicken fried steak of all time.
Let me know if you need to know more,
John from Texas.
Even easier to get to is the food right at the Menger Hotel (Host Hotel for the 2014 Texas Toy Soldier Show) FREE breakfast buffet included with the room. Any type of eggs, breads, fruit, pastry that you could want ....^&grin
The Saturday evening dinner for the Symposium has been Mexican the last 2 years and Excellent as well. :salute::

Panzer,
You know what...last years dinner was GOOD, now that I remember. The guacamole was incredible and the enchiladas has a good flavor. So, yeah not bad...but nothing beats Pappasitos. Plus, I would like to "here, here" on the following:
Magnolia Pancake haus...oh my lord...yummy
Pappadeux is to die for...it is the owned by the same owners of Pappasitos.
I do Whataburger once a week and wish there was a In and Outs. Yeah, Whataburger hits the spot.
If you go to Magnolia Pancakes for breakfast, then do lunch at Habaneros Grill....get the steak burrito and queso chips...then come back for dinner at Julians (behind it) for some of the best pizza in town.
God I love to eat,
John from Texas
Wayne:
No disrespect was intended toward the Menger or the riverwalk area. I think John and I were just touting some other haunts worth seeing while people visit our fair city.

Jason, None taken ! Sharing some additional options for those attending the show. Hey.......we are 30 days away and counting. Looking forward to seeing everyone there again !
What days will you be there at the show ? ^&grin

John:
A “here, here” back at you!!!! You just made me even more home sick as I am marooned in California for another week or so.
How could I forget Habaneros (or Habs as we call it)? The nachos there are the best. They do them right, queso and shredded cheese along with all of the other standard nacho fixings. And the burrito you mentioned? It is the size of an 88mm shell.
I am still looking for some good Chinese food in SA, so if you have a recommendation let me know.
Best,
PA
PA,
Chinese....hmmmmm....I am still looking for a good joint as I am sick and tired of buffets. HOWEVER COMMA, if you are down for Korean BBQ there is a joint called IL Song off of Blanco and 410 that has Korean BBQ ribs to die for (just like in Songton). And if you dig Filipino food...well then I know of a joint off of 410 and Bandera that has the best lumpia and chicken adobo in SA. Plus, I just found out that have the "off the menu" pork adobo that is jamming.
Let me get back with you on the Chinese, but WoK on Wheels Chicken fried rice with out peas and extra green onion is badass.
I love our food!!!
John
John:
Please let me know if and when you find some good Chinese food (Wok on Wheels is about the best we have found too). Luckily we do get our fill when we travel to the bay area, but it would be nice to have some in San Antonio as well. On a side note, we did find a good sushi place in Boerne called Yummi Sushi.
I look forward to meeting you at the show, I hope you let me buy you a beer or two so I can get a few more restaurant recommendations/reviews!
Best,
Jason
