Based on some informal market research with Dealers and Collectors my opinion is that the following ranges are the most popular in the USA and World.

USA
1. World War Two
2. American Civil War
3. Napoleonics
4. French and Indian War/ American Revolution
5. World War One
6. Medieval
7. Ancient Rome
8. Wild West, Custer and Alamo
9. Victorian Wars
10. Modern Wars...Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan

Global
1. World War Two
2. Napoleonics
3. Medieval
4. World War One
5. Victorian Wars
6. American Revolution/French and Indian Wars
7. Seven Years War
8. American Civil War
9. Ancient Rome
10. English Civil War and Thirty Years War

Would love to see other opinions and rankings

Honorable Mention would go to:
Renaissance
Ancient Greece
Samurai
Jacobite Rebellion

Interesting, I certainly thought that coming under Victorian Wars the 1879 Zulu war was one of the best sellers at least for Britains !
Also surprised that Ancient Rome is so low down on the list, perhaps with the new lines by TG and K&C the Romans will be climbing that list in the near future.

Hmmmm.....how big of a survey was this. I know you stated this was your opinion but I don't know if I agree with this. Obviously WW2 and NAPS are huge but I think the remainder of eras are up for debate. As Horns suggested I would think the Zulu range and Roman ranges would be higher then suggested. Not downing the FIW but have we really seen alot released in 2016 for this?

1. WW II will always top the list because of the wide range of battlefields. Europe, Russia, Pacific Islands, North Africa etc. The evolved fighter aircraft and tanks offer endless display opportunities.

2. WWI will be second because of the complexity of the first combat aircraft, tanks, artillery and fortifications. Also the range of the conflict, Turkey, Russia, Austria Italy etc. Plus Jonn Jenkins suberb tanks open up great possibilities for dioramas. The colorful aircraft and their pilots are a unique study by themselves.

3. Napoleonic Wars because of the wide range of colorful uniforms and the many complex battles fought all over Europe. The colorful leaders and evolved tactics all contribute to a very interesting period.

4. Medieval Warfare i.e. Vikings, The Crusades, 100 Years War, War of the Roses etc.

5. The Seven Years War, colorful and a wide range of battlefields ranging from Europe to India and North America (French & Indian War).

6. Romans, a wide range of battlefields, interesting seige equipment, advanced fortifications and colorful leaders.

7. Greek and Macedonian Hoplite Warfare, Persian Wars.

8. Civil Wars i.e. American, English, Spanish Civil War etc.

9. Colonial Wars i.e. Sepoy Revolt, Mexican Wars (Alamo), Indian Wars, Zulu War, Boer War, Vietnam War etc.

10. Periods that are not well covered, if at all i.e. Crimean War, Chariot Warfare i.e. Egyptians versus Hittites, Heroic Warfare i.e. Mycenaen Greeks, the Seige of Troy, Mesoamerican Indian Wars i.e. Mayans versus Toltecs, Conquistadors versus Aztecs or Incas, Mongols versus Chinese or Russians. A lot of opportunities for the ambitous Toy Soldier Manufacturer.

Reviewing sales on my site in the US my biggest sellers are:

French & Indian War/Revolutionary War
Civil War
World War II

Certainly not a scientific study but a mix of opinions and feedback from a few dozen queries.
Probably each maker has their own statistics based on what they produce.
Really wanted to compare my opinion and findings with others......just curious, not on anyone's payroll.

Across the board without a doubt...WWII the most popular range. To further expand WWII German's even more popular !

I think more than ever before the collective manufacturers are managing to please all of us most of the time, which is no mean task.

There are a tremendous number of ranges out there at the moment so I feel pretty lucky to have this much choice . Speaking as a "global" customer I think ACW is too low down that list........certainly many U.K. Collectors on this forum seem to have an ACW interest. For me it's my biggest range. I wonder whether K&C backing off from this period has dented recent buying patterns for the period ?

I think Its accurate putting Victorian wars higher on the global list as Zulu has a big following .........never enough Zulu for me.......

I live in the hope of a Spanish- American war / Philippine insurrection range .........will never happen......

Thanks the tip..... 12 x 1898 spaniards in rayadillo have been immediately signed up for service.
Here's hoping for some future rough riders and ( I know I'm stretching it here) some Filipino irregulars .....

I agree with other members that the Second World War was the most popular range of 2016 - as always! I'd wager that the Napoleonic Wars, American Civil War, and Anglo-Zulu Wars are the next most popular series. After these, I'd guess that Romans, First World War, Seven Years War (French and Indian War) are next followed by everything else!

There is little doubt that WWII is near or at the top of the list ... but the focus has been pretty narrow with the European Theater taking almost 100%.
Note: I'll include the African / Desert Campaign as part of the European Theater.

I am VERY happy to see a much greater emphasis on the Pacific Theater with K&C and Thomas Gunn leading the charge. Hopefully 2017, will bring a wealth of Japanese, Australian, Commonwealth Troops, US Marines and others to swell my TS ranks.

The Stillwell's, Marauder's, Raider's from the CBI would be most welcomed

Happy New Year Gents!
