Indeed, I tossed the thoughts of visiting the Show this year around for quite a while.
Then I checked with Mike Miller if he would be going?
Now, today, this evening, I mentioned to my wife that I am thinking about traveling to San Antonio, TX, this Memorial Day weekend.
She said: Why?
I said: Well, it seems to be a good time to visit San Antonio before the summer heat. I believe it’s a very nice part of town around the Alamo, Menger Hotel, Riverwalk, and what not. And, oh yeah, there’s a Toy Soldier Show going on that weekend and I would really like to meet some friends there I know from the forum and/or even met before at the Chicago Show.
She said: Okay, that sounds great, I go with you.
I said: ............................................... {eek3} ^&confuse
Then I said: Are you serious? That is sooo cool! We will have a great time. I love it!
So now it is for sure. I will visit the Texas Toy Soldier Show this year with my wife, and I am really looking forward to it.
I’m in and out of Toy Soldiers for roughly 17 years now, more in than out though :wink2: :smile2:
This, today, was the very first time, that a response from my wife in regards to the hobby was not like an “Oh, nice” or a “Whatever” or a “Yeah, you do that” or a “Really, do you need that”, but a “I go with you”.
Times they are a changin’ ^&grin
Will fix the flights shortly and then book the hotel as soon as the show-related Menger room rate is available.
Who would have thought? Certainly not me ^&grin
Looking forward to meeting some of you, be it at the show, or some get-together in the evenings :wink2:
See you in Texas :smile2:

Konrad...your wife will love it...and you will be very glad she came with you...
San Antonio is a really fun...and at night...a very romantic getaway...
the Menger hotel itself has a rich history...
a huge list of 11 presidents and assorted dignitaries have slept there...
Teddy Roosevelt used the Menger bar for his recruitment of the Rough Riders...
they claim 32 different entities (ghosts) roam the halls...
including Roosevelt himself...
KingsX...Andy Nielson and Laura's flagship toy soldier shop is in the lobby...
literally downstairs from your room...
the Alamo is right next door...
and again...I literally mean right next door...
the Riverwalk is all lit up...
the mood is slow and casual...
shorts and flip flops are the accepted attire...
music and bands everywhere...
the hospitality of the people is awesome...
the food spectacular...
all within easy walking distance...
my favorite tradition is to eat at the Mercado...
which we take a 12 block trolley ride to...
too far for me to walk...^&grin
either at Mi Tierre or La Margarita...
my 2 favorite eating destinations...
since I was a child...
my family and I have visited San Antonio for weekend getaways...
and I have kept that tradition alive as an adult...
using a quick trip to San Antonio as the perfect "second date"...
you will be glad you brought her...
I have made my booking already...
the reservation desk is aware of the "show rate"...
