2018 Texas Toy Soldier Show Flyer (3 Viewers)

Sounds good, Mike!
Sounds really, really good.
Just got something on the agenda to look forward to in 2018.
See you then :wink2: :smile2:

Konrad,

Great news that you will be attending the show this year ! I have no doubt you will
have an amazing time.In addition to the Alamo next to the Menger there is also the
"Battle for Texas" Museum next door as well which has some outstanding artifacts on
display. A few blocks away is the briscoe museum which has K&C's massive Alamo
diorama on display.

I am looking to attend the show, never been to the Texas one. When I go to shows my wife is always attached to my back pocket, but always supportive. Makes it easy to get more space in the house. Mind you it is just weeks before our show in Ontario.

Thought you would like to see your old barge being painted. Nice piece but was surprised at some of the design on the figures. Single sculpts are not easy to paint.JJ1-2.JPG

Don

Don...I would like to follow the progress on your barge...would you open a thread to showcase it?
it looks great so far...a big job!

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU GUYS!!

Konrad,

Your wife will have a blast. My wife and daughter came with me to meet all the Toy Soldier Savages...err collectors at La Margarita and they still talk about that night. Yes, its true ZB Lang was crawling under the table and touched me, BUT I am okay with that. Nick was so embarressed at our behavior I wonder if he will join us again...he will! Then Tom showed up and it was all over. Poor Julie was squished between me and ZB Lang, I don't know how she even ate.

All in all, it was a blast and the show is awesome as well. Expect hot and humid weather, cold drinks and delicious food amongst friends. Downtown San Antonio is a whoot to visit, people everywhere, cops too and lots to see and do. You'll have fun and just to hang out with Mike Miller?...priceless.

Hi John,

Really looking forward to meeting you and the whole bunch.
And beside the Toy Soldiers, I’m looking forward to experiencing downtown San Antonio.
Sounds so good.
Currently my wife seems to be looking hard for any possible excuses so she doesn’t have to go.
I think she got second thoughts after her spontaneous “I go with you”, lol.
Have to work on it :wink2:
And yes: Hanging out with Mike? ..... priceless. ^&grin

Konrad...if you end up coming alone...it's cool...you can still hang out with us male dogs...

Indeed, I tossed the thoughts of visiting the Show this year around for quite a while.
Then I checked with Mike Miller if he would be going?
Now, today, this evening, I mentioned to my wife that I am thinking about traveling to San Antonio, TX, this Memorial Day weekend.
She said: Why?
I said: Well, it seems to be a good time to visit San Antonio before the summer heat. I believe it’s a very nice part of town around the Alamo, Menger Hotel, Riverwalk, and what not. And, oh yeah, there’s a Toy Soldier Show going on that weekend and I would really like to meet some friends there I know from the forum and/or even met before at the Chicago Show.
She said: Okay, that sounds great, I go with you.
I said: ............................................... {eek3} ^&confuse
Then I said: Are you serious? That is sooo cool! We will have a great time. I love it!
So now it is for sure. I will visit the Texas Toy Soldier Show this year with my wife, and I am really looking forward to it.
I’m in and out of Toy Soldiers for roughly 17 years now, more in than out though :wink2: :smile2:
This, today, was the very first time, that a response from my wife in regards to the hobby was not like an “Oh, nice” or a “Whatever” or a “Yeah, you do that” or a “Really, do you need that”, but a “I go with you”.
Times they are a changin’ ^&grin
Will fix the flights shortly and then book the hotel as soon as the show-related Menger room rate is available.
Who would have thought? Certainly not me ^&grin
Looking forward to meeting some of you, be it at the show, or some get-together in the evenings :wink2:

See you in Texas :smile2:

Howdy Konrad!

Great to hear that you will be joining us in Texas! The guys are right...your wife would love San Antonio! There is TONS of shopping downtown! Your room at The Menger Hotel would put you right next to the HUGE mall called The Shops at Rivercenter, there's some very nice shops down East Houston street then there's Market Square featuring lovely imported goods from Mexico. The food is downtown is delicious and there is a lot of variety: Tex-Mex, Italian, Cajun, American, BBQ and so much more!

The Menger Hotel is offering the special rates of $109 per night which is an INCREDIBLE price considering you will be next door to The Alamo. Call The Menger Hotel directly at (210) 223-4361 or (800) 345-9285 and ask for the "toy soldier show" rate. If you book through a third party site like Priceline, Expedia, etc you will not be able to take advantage of this great rate.

If you have any questions while you're planning your trip, please feel free to reach out to me.

Also...Mike is right...if you end up coming alone there are plenty of collectors to hang out with. You'll find this group to be friendly and happy to extend invitations to lunch, dinner, etc.

Scheduling issues continue to keep me from Chicago and the Westcoaster. The Texas show is now the only show I can make it to. Thankfully it is a spectacular event. I highly, highly, highly recommend it, not just for the toy soldiers but for the history, comrade and joy that make it all so unique.

Jason,

I missed out on last year's show but, If i have to foot march to San Antonio...I will be there, barring an emergency !

Thank you very much for this kind and welcoming post.
Really looking forward to this trip, not sure yet if with or without my wife ^&grinn
And you are right, it sure is a great group to hang out with.
Some of them I already know from some Chicago Shows, and others I’m looking forward to meet :wink2:

I've never been to a toy soldier show and I live in Dallas. This should make it a 4-5 hour drive (depending on Traffic). Even though I don't know anyone I am thinking of attending. About how many square feet is it and how many tables? Is it really a two-day event?

thanks
