Congratulations to the Dodgers, and now, we're officially in the off-season. The Hot Stove is fired up again!

For me, I'm watching what the Phillies will do. That kid Klentak is finally gone, and the Phillies have a number of contracts that have run out. Sign Realmuto? Sign Gregorius? Farm system is in a gully between peaks right now. Lots to think about.

And Tony LaRussa is back in Chicago, how about that?

Prost!
Brad

The Mets have a new owner today, subject to closing in 10 days. The era of penny pinching is over and the era of being able to spend big is hear.

The Mets need a catcher and Realmuto will be at the top of the list. We need a CF and Springer is available. We also need another SP and Bauer is looking good. Charlie Morton is available and he’s a possibility.

Let the fun begin.

Brad, every one of those names is being kicked around down here as being on the Nats want list, as well. Should be a fun off-season. :wink2: -- Al

The Yankees are never going to win a championship with Gary Sanchez as their starting catcher. They need to either trade him or cut him, and get a catcher who can play both sides of the ball, and not strike out 45% of the time. Tanaka's contract is up, and with his iffy injured arm, and poor performance in this year's playoffs rebutting the myth of "Tanaka Time," they need to replace him with a legitimate #2 starter. They also need to revamp their bullpen, as there are only three relievers they were able to rely on last season.

The Red Sox are a tire fire, they have no hope of besting either the Rays or the Yankees, they are going to be mediocre for a long time.

All they need to be competitive is four starters, a closer, several quality bullpen arms, a first and second baseman and a center fielder.

Other than that, they are all set.

They traded away their best player, a player who just led his new team to their first WS title since Christ was in a crib.

Nats have a lot of work to do this off-season. Just this week they declined the options on Sanchez (SP), Eaton (OF), Kendrick (IF), and Thames (1B). The first 3 were all instrumental in the 2019 WS title, Kendrick in particular being very pivotal and popular. Rizzo has his work cut out as the Nats need to address the SP rotation and find an OF bat to protect Soto. -- Al

Just looked at the Nats current roster and only 10 players from the WS team are still on it. Good thing they won when they did as it's just impossible to keep a team together very long these days. -- Al

It is still early but apparently the Giants are going to spend big this off season.

I doubt it, but it does fit with the current ownership’s constant “attempts” to sign big name free agents.

Name any big name free agent from the last few years and I all but guarantee the Giants have made the news as one of the teams that made an offer.

Yet none of them have signed with the Giants.

A+ on placating the fan base. F- for abysmal recent rosters.

Looks like Randy Arozarena’s five minutes are up. He’s been detained in Mexico for trying to abduct his daughter from her mother’s home and assaulting the woman’s father. If true, MLB will throw the book at him.

From the penthouse to the outhouse.

This just adds to the start of a bad off season for the Rays.

They just lost one of their best pitchers, Charlie Morton, to the Braves in free agency.

Reports also say they are entertaining trade offers for Cy Young award winner Blake Snell.

The Mets owner disclosed in an interview today that several years ago he purchased the Buckner ball at auction and he announced that he plans to display it in the Mets museum at CitiField.

Yup, small market team, great at drafting and finding players via trades, but they don't have the capital to sign them long term.

George:

Great point.

Apparently they need to try and trade Snell because he is due about $40mil over the next three seasons.

$14mil a season for a recent Cy Young winner is an absolute bargain unless you are a small market team.

Looks like we’re looking at another abbreviated season. MLB wants all players vaccinated before spring training begins and therefore ST may be delayed. Players are opposed to any delay because if anything less than 162 is played, the owners want salaries prorated.

Well, some trade action on the part of the Nats who have picked up from the Pyrats All-Star 1B Josh Bell for 2 minor-league RHPs. Nats still have lots of work to do as WS/playoff hero Howie Kendrick has retired. Lots of holes. -- Al

2020 continues it's evil reputation as another HoF pitcher, Phil Niekro, has passed away at age 81. That's 7 Hofers gone this year. RIP, Knucks. -- Al
