rob, i dont think an apology is necessary. afterall i regard your anglophilia as enthusiastic, and not yet irritating.:D i think in normal context, we are able to exchange perspectives in a calm and civil manner, usually anyway. heck, i think you quite remembered how unfond i am of the British Empire, but i have not yet reached mel gibson's level :p, yet here we are discussing in a friendly way.

on another note, do you see yourself collecting russian troops?

:D Nice one Nasir!(even Gibsons not all bad mate;)-and the British Empire was involved in some baaaaaad stuff!)

Well I could be tempted.I have the T34 and Tank riders,I think the T34 is a great model and I would like to see a KV1 or 2.I would also like some Russian troops in white winter gear:cool:.How about you Nasir, would you like Andy to return to this theatre?

Rob

I would be thrilled if K&C did some Russian AFVs, but unless Andy changes his mind, he "won't be going there anytime soon" The sales of Russians were not great and there are new ranges to develop and these are selling well. I have even stopped lobbying him for Russians. I am not expecting any in 2010. Even though many of the Normandy and Bulge German AFVs are really Eastern Front pieces.

for me, it depends rob. yeah, it'll be nice if K&C heads back east. as much as i collect FL now, K&C is what brought me to this hobby, so nostagically, i do look out for a few K&C and figarti items from time to time.

but i'm a diorama sort of collector, and i think i'll go crazy if i need to wait a year for the next batch of uncle joe's boys. saying that, the K&C fall of berlin is still my favourite line till now.

Brad. There has never been a successful escape from Stalag Treefrog Forum, has there Schultz. :D

Terry

I started a tunnel from under the washroom but only got as far as the 'Whats your favourite chocolate ' thread!;)

Seems Gebhard and I were having a somewhat interesting discussion that's been censored as it were (now I know how it feels).

Well, that's it for me. It's been nice exchanging views, experiences and whatnot the four or so years. Until we meet again... .......
I would greatly prefer that Brad remain as a part of this forum. His advice has been of great help to me and his posts are of great interest. This forum will NOT be the same without him. -- Al

Well I just had an email from Brad,it sounds like he is indeed upset and taking a break from the forum.

First a disclaimer - I collect nazi personality figures and vehicles. And agree with the truism that everyone will collect what they like. But I do think there is added tension when Nazi parade and rally figures come into play. The Nazi's used those events for propaganda purposes to promote national socialism and did so very effectively. So the uniforms, flags and symbols used in that context were designed for a visual effect to promote a political agenda. If you believe they are cool etc that was the intent of Hitler, Speer and Goebbles who went to great lengths to stage these events. That's where these figures differ from mongols, huns and other bad guys of history. As an aside, recently reading a book about famous people and their book collections. Came across the fact that Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones has a large collection of books about the nazi rallies. The least "fascist" type of guy you could imagine. Why? As it turns out he is fascinated with the staging of these events from a live performance perspective. That's someone who is the business of entertaining mass audiences.

On the notion that they just represent real history, well there are probably a lot of events from war that are best left undone even though they happened. I can see both sides of this and in the end people will do what they like anyway - it doesn't really make much difference what is said here.

The miniatures look extremely cool and I can understand that excellent historical miniatures like these attract a TS collector, regardless of any support for the ideology (a war is always fought by at least 2 sides I guess, why omit one from a historical representation? Reality won't go away even you try and shut it away...). The real thing must have looked majestic but must also have felt frightening, very frightening, at least if you were part of the German minority that didn't buy into Hitlers deceiving dreams or passively stood by, or if you were Jewish... The powerful images of that period should really be well kept and reminded, there is always a danger of History repeating itself, the masses do have little and selective memories:(...

For those who may not have seen it in the Forum News section, I'm posting here what I posted there.

Apparently the concern that I had seems to have been addressed so thank you to those concerned for taking care of it.

As a former moderator I should know better what a tough job they have so my apologies for flying off the handle to Shannon, Dave and everybody else.

A good friend on this Board said I seemed testy lately. Maybe he's right. I have had some concerns about my son that has kept me up nights but he has just been admitted to college so maybe he's on the right track. I hope so.

I'm also adjusting to my changed duties at our company, which was acquired, as well as seeing many people I know and have grown up with lose their jobs.

Lastly, right after Christmas I fell down a couple of stairs and bruised my side. Well, it wasn't getting any better so I had X-rays yesterday and I have a cracked rib.

Well, this is not by way of justification, but explanation.

Again apologies to the membership.

Over and out,
