Great scenes, I’m enjoying the Brit dios today

G’Day Duke,
Many thanks for posting probably my favourite K&C Artillery piece…The British 25-Pounder!

Ever since I was a wee boy back in Bonnie Scotland I always loved this classic WW2 field gun.

My first introduction to it was the 3-piece Dinky Toys combo set which I used to drool over in the front window of a local toy shop in Renfrew sometime in the late 1950s. The set comprised the Quad Gun Tractor pulling the Ammunition Limber followed by the 25-Ponder itself…

I well remember it cost the princely sum of about 10 shillings (in old Pre decimal currency) about US$1:25 back then!
Well above my weekly pocket money level.

Fortunately for me my birthday was coming up and one of my favourite uncles was home on leave from the Army and asked what I would like for my birthday…Without missing a beat I requested my favourite Dinky…The Quad, Linder and Field Gun set.

Just a few days later I was given this iconic set which has travelled with me across the globe to Hong Kong along with several other Dinky Quads, Limbers &Guns which I have acquired over the years in Australia, America and even right here in HK.

In addition, here’s a selection of photos of other Quad, Limber and Guns produced by K&C for ourselves and Del Prado over the years…Enjoy!
Andy.

That’s a touching story Andy, one which I would say many on this forum have experienced for themselves and the seed that was a factor in our collecting history. This is certainly an iconic piece. Robin.

Great looking set up there Duke. :salute::

I let my 25 Pounder go a while back due to lack of space alas, and I too remember the Dinky set though didn't have one myself as a child,, but did have I think it was a Britains 25 pounder that fired matchsticks great fun as a kid knocking down the plastic enemy troops !

Yes, it is my favourite gun too !!!!

As a kid I also had the DINKY 25Pdr with tractor and limber, then constructed the AIRFIX 1:72 plastic kit to be followed by a TAMYIA 1:35 scale kit.

I then 'graduated to a 1:1 scale working version when serving in the RAA in the '70s

I'm the layer who has just fired the gun.

I even saw and photographed this one on Monday while travelling through a country town (Brookton) here in Western Australia where is displayed at their war memorial.

Thanks Andy for your reply. Thanks for sharing your story of your history with the 25-pounder models. It is an iconic piece of military history. I really like this particular set with the quad, limber, and gun together.
