Bet the script is nothing like the original movie.......Michael

I saw it. I thought it was pretty good--the ending was a bit predictable, though. Over all, however, I thought it was pretty darn good. I never saw the original.
When Russell Crowe mentioned Leadville, I got all excited--I have actually spent the night in Leadville in an old hotel built in the 1870's! It's a cool little town.

(Being a historical firearms enthusiast, I enjoyed identifying all the different weapons shown...)

Saw this movie last weekend. If you like Westerns its a must see. I would almost say that its on the same caliber as Tombstone.

I thought the role of his second in command was played incrediblly. He deserves an oscar....(so does russel crowe)

Looks good to me.

Saw a schofield revolver, too!!

When is The Assassination of Jesse...etc, etc. coming out? I thought it was released yesterday, but apparently only in 4 cities. And I WILL NOT drive to Austin to see it (the people there are wierd:eek:). So when do the rest of us get to see the movie?

I thought it only came out in Austin, New York, LA, and somewhere else on the 21st. None of the theatres in San Antonio are showing it yet.

I figured it out. Unfortunately, in the US/Canada, the movie has had a limited release. If you want to see it, you have to go to Los Angeles, Austin, New York, Toronto, or wait until it comes out on DVD. Darn.

There will be a wider release in a few days/weeks - they always have a limited release to test the audience before they go to a General Release.

Believe me that film will come out and be big !! Looks like Westerns are on a comeback !! :D

Re: Jesse James & 3:10 to Yuma

"The Assassination of Jesse James......." has not yet been released over here but a pal of mine has just returned from the States and caught it in LA. Like me he is a big-big western fan and his synopsis, for what it's worth to you guys, is as follows:
A great return to the classic western although it is a butt-numbing 3 hours long, he described it more as an "art-western" breathtaking vistas with vast never-ending horizons that appear almost menacing, the Canadian locations perfectly filling in for old Missouri.
Pitt gives a sinister yet weary of running from the law portrayal as James but Casey Affleck steals the show as Ford and even though every western fan worth his salt knows the outcome (title is a bit of a spoiler for those who don't know LOL) he said it is with nervous trepidation that you wait for Pitt to straighten the picture just after he has given his guns to Affleck.
My pal also stated that it wont appeal to the younger film-goer as it is too "talky" and it wouldn't surprise him if it went butt up at the box-office but he has no doubt IHO it is as good as, if not better, than Eastwood's "Unforgiven" and that won a fistful of oscars. So guys it could become either a 2008 oscar winning movie or a cult western DVD for tomorrow.

I on the other hand caught "3.10 to Yuma" last night and thought it a brilliant movie with sterling performances from Crowe and Bale who played the roles IMO in a fair homage to Ford and Heflin. However, leaving the cinema I reflected- What if the first two actors signed for the remake had taken the roles? Eric Bana as the farmer and Tom Cruise as Ben Wade! Bana vs Bale I think I would give it to Bale but Crowe vs the Cruiser-not so sure- I was mighty impressed with Cruise's portrayal as the hit-man in "Collateral" his first bad-guy role and I couldn't help thinking that as good as Crowe was in the role of Wade the ending and his change of character to all round good guy just didn't quite ring true for me. But with the Cruiser playing Ben Wade!!!!!!!!!! may have a pushed my belief and empathy buttons a little bit more.
However I echo Ron's sentiments ....bring on those westerns! as I really am tired of all those endless CGI "super-heroes" reelers...just keep them in the kids comics!

I agree with UKReb - No question 3:10 to Yuma was a BIG SMASH HIT !! Great acting all the way around.

I guess I will hold judgement on the Jesse James Movie until I see it too.

I am excited about a return to westerns. Always good stuff.
An ironic thing about 3:10 to Yuma--it is a movie about the American West, but niether of the two stars are American! Like Cold Mountain! I just think it is a little funny.:D

But Oh Boy! doesn't it makes a change that both of the non-American actors were finally portrayed as "good guys" in 3.10 to Yuma as in nearly every Hollywood film for the last fifteen years the nasty "yah!boo" villain has always been a Brit!
Now why is that?, is it the accent? or are Brits seen in the US as particularly nasty guys per se!
Remember when posting your replies I too am a sensitive Brit LOL.

Ya'll's accent is associated, I find, with some level of intelligence, so I figure it can sound more cold and calculating. Plus, it can just sound sinister! That is an interesting question though.
As I am sure you are aware, the Texan accent of my local friends is associated with a lack of smarts...very inaccurate, though.
Say, in British films, do Americans portray the villains?
